    • RE: [Plugin] Camera Stats

      This looks really great!

Works fine on my Mac so far.
Can you tell me about imputing the aspect ratio? i use sketchup to design tv sets so 16:9.
Also does the statistics window always disappear behind the main skp window? so we have to re-size our windows when its opened?

Is it possible with this plugin to show a true camera zoom from a certain location? so i place my camera i can show what it looks like from this position and and THEN from that position what a zoom looks like?

    • RE: Podium 2 beta 2

You may well be right. But, over the last 4 years of using sketchup I've wanted more out of it and increasingly plugins give me that chance like podium and the fredos et al of this world. So over time there maybe a conflict maybe?. I use alot of plugins, mainly the one seen in the visual index. but also more.
Maybe the majority Mac users of podium don't have as many and don't get conflicts. Podium has always worked fine no matter where you place it. So the line of inquiry starts with us questioning the plugins not working and finding an answer. Certainly the people here that have responded 'passionately' use plugins alot like me. Therefore we have problems and voice them here. luckily for me these are clever people and have sorted a resolution.

My question is - is there a point to having a user level plugins folder? will i get any problems?

everything works now i have deleted the user level folder and placed podium in HD.

    • RE: Podium 2 beta 2

After lots of head scratching with plugins not working and missing tool bars etc, on finding the SCF thread that solved the problem by removing the plugins folder at user level that podium created was a great relief and a god send. Podium works fine as jeff pointed out when you move that too.

Podium is fantastic and i thought that i'd link this god send on the podium forum. So I did point out this to the podium people fairly recently (not to the team directly). Also in doing that i asked podium people if i would get any problems. 0 replys and 97 people looked.

podium V2 looks really good and exciting. i love using 1.7 and will be wanting to download the V2 mac beta when its ready. But, i will want to know about installation, because it was podium I'm afraid that was causing the problems. all plugins working after taking the advice of people here. Still Love podium.

    • What makes a crash report?

Can anyone explain what circumstances create a crash log?
I have seen the google window appear a few times, thats where you send the info off to google, but no crash report logged - so whats a crash? if sketchup just closes is that a crash?
if my window freezes and i get a colour wheel and i have to restart - is that a crash? it bloody annoying whatever
      Whats a Bugslpat?
      ......
      cheers

      have fun
some basics: (because probably like me you wont read the instruction)

its a bit confusing at the start with direct sources (your lights you put in) and ambient occlusion (the background or the ground and sky colours you have checked in SU inflence this so play with them too) . you find your lights already waiting for you in your components window. theres an irrcache in there too which you place infront of a mirror, for example, if you want that face to reflect. when your touring around use the arrow keys to fly around. double click on a texture to alter it - animate it, change the colour, reflecttion, bump it. serch for HDRI's there fun......

not as far as my models go. here the face count is 72,639. rendered in just over 5mins at x1 resolution. which is fine for something like this.
have you had a go on lightup before?

Care to share the fire texture? It looks awesome.

i think that was got from 3d warehouse - search for fire something like that.

Ecuadorian - no, just the texture in Lightup animates (i think that that was a .png as it was fire). Lightup outputs still images in tiffs. So when i coverted the tiff image to a jpeg i seem to have lost a bit of colour. not sure why. 😲

cheers. it was animating very nicely in Lightup, the colour of the fire faded when i converted the tiff to a jpeg. not sure why though

1st time i've posted anything here. so keen to hear what you think.

have become quite transfixed with lightup as my rendering option. Being able to get movies out of it and alot of high quality renders in one hit is the appeal. rendering for more than 10mins dosen't fit my workflow or my mentality.
I've posted these on the lightup site so apologies if your seeing them again.

so the render time on Tudor3 pics was a 5mins wait. on the tudor2 pics i had more time and i whacked up the resolution - that took 15mins. With the way Lightup works after the wait you can fly around and snap as my high quality pics as you like hence why theres quite a few.there are some draw backs to using it but they far out way the appeals for me

      what do you think?

Nice work. Would you be able to get the camera to zoom like a real camera as apposed to the zooming in and out like skp does?

please do. i'm all ready to get involved from my point of view although there is another person i think more knowledgeable about cameras on SCF. a thread about workflow and the F&S Plugin he listed camera focal lengths and allsorts of things I think he's in the business 'art director'??. he'll be another cohort of updating the F&SPlugin. c

by 'zoom in and zoom out like a camera' i mean sketchup zooms in and out by moving the camera towards the target (yes?)- I'd like it to mimic reality so it looks like its zooming in from that position and give accurate info when you pan left and right or move the camera up or down.
      Does that help?

    • RE: Camera As an Object

Can't shout loud enough for an update along the lines of the 'Film and stage' plugin.

thomthom - On showing one of my set designs to a very important music director, as i was showing off my set to him in sketchup,
he said 'what does my angle look like if i put my camera here'. I showed him. he then said 'now zoom in. show me what it looks if i zoomed in from there?'. 'Pan left and right' - he lost interest after that as my camera went all looney tunes.
Is sketchup able to do this - zooming in along that positional line panning from that start position? have correct lense showing accurate information (I know that this info, at least is available and has been posted before).

or is this what you've just said above?
