I do love that the new version doesn't ask you several questions for each update you install.

RE: Sketchup version 8 crashes on startup
@unearthed Seriously, you think you can quietly edit from 2012 to SU8 and the say you tried the sub version 2020 but it didn't work!
Did you actually have a log on? That would have worked.Sorry, too many things, too hard to keep quiet.
Happy to fix or help but not when its all hidden away. -
RE: Beam Compass
I think I actually have this compass, its in one of my draws of stuff that I'm still sorting through.

RE: Sketchup version 8 crashes on startup
@Rich-O-Brien Feel free to try but in my experience they will still be incorrect no matter what you do.

RE: Sketchup version 8 crashes on startup
It would help if you first confirmed that you are actually using 2012 and not 2022 or some other variant. I barely remember 2012, was that the one with the bloke with glasses as a scale figure.

I assume this is somewhere in Australia
About an hour north of Sydney at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River.

Now I want to see pictures of the boat as well
I don't have any recent ones, this was it when I bought it 7 years ago. It has changed a lot since then. The workshop is basically from the door on the side to the back. Kitchen between workshop and wheelhouse. Main 'Office' is in the wheelhouse because I can close it off and heat and cool it, I have four monitors in there. The workshop has 3 monitors and a design desk setup.
Upstairs, openable sundeck, which has my treadmill and 3rd workstation, only two monitors up there, I can watch TV and use PC while on the treadmill. All three sets of monitors run off the same PC via hubs so I on the same files wherever I am.
Then double bedroom and full bathroom and finally open back deck.It is a converted Whitsundays inter island ferry, capable of 40kn+ in its heyday. Still manages mid 30s. Two 400 horse inboard turbo diesels below the waterline.
She's old but so am I and she is home.I wake up to this.
Nod off to this.
And regularly pull these in with a simple hand line for dinner.
It's a tough life but somebody's got to do it.

How do you price a job? Per m/sq
Each commission is different, you get to know the client and what sort of thing they are after, you check the site and the lighting and the general feel of the place, then most importantly see what sort of car they drive and use the BMW/MERC/AUDI algorithm to pick a figure out of the air.
Are you passing on the skill to an apprentice?
I've had 11 over the years and many students.
The caustics in the 3rd to last image is glorious.
Yeah I love that shot too. The reason it is often called Painting with Light.
Is the sketch yours too or is it someone elses concept?
In this case it is the work of another artist. I do a lot of my own but also freelance for many others. Quite a few artists don't have the skills to produce their own work or the time for that matter. I'm semi retired now, so I pick and choose what I want to work on, This was a nobrainer, too nice not to work on.

A piece from my real job, not really sketchup related.
Just a bit of showing off really.
This is the charcoal full size cartoon for a full door panel.
Set up on my bench read to start the leading process, and yes my workshop is on a boat.
A detail of the beginning.
The bottom section off the bench and up to the light.
Top in progress.
Nearly there.
Up to the light, late afternoon sun.
And when finally installed.

@Rich-O-Brien yep, thank the lord it works.

RE: How to stop irrelevant posts showing up in our feed.
@Rich-O-Brien The only way I can know that for sure is to be someone else and see what I am not seeing. So if you are seeing the thread in question, im pretty sure know the one, then yes it worked.
I know why I didn't originally try this method, in the old forum software I couldn't open that thread any more due to the massive number of resourse draining images so I didn't try here. But it opened easily when I did try in the new software. So that was a good test. -
RE: How to stop irrelevant posts showing up in our feed.
@Rich-O-Brien D'oh! I should have found that myself. It is available and I use it on other forums but I didn't expect to find it in that spot.
Thanks Rich, you can take the unsolved off.
Note to self, click everything before ranting. -
RE: Double lines in design when exporting for lazer cutter
I see you are using Eneroth's Laser Tools. Why not add Eneroth's SVG Exporter to get them into Lightburn.

RE: How to stop irrelevant posts showing up in our feed.
@Rich-O-Brien
I don't see a block. I see it is possible to Block a user, but that isn't what I want.Yes yes you are correct I don't have to visit such threads, but I also don't feel the need to even see it every day in the list of new posts.

RE: How to stop irrelevant posts showing up in our feed.
@TIG Indeed I have but I cannot find anything that allows me to block/mute/hide a specific thread.

How to stop irrelevant posts showing up in our feed.
How do we get rid of pointless AI posts that are always thrown in your face as New Posts or Recent posts when you know they are irrelevant gibberish that should be deleted but they are so resource intensive that you can't even click on them to ignore them. It was 28 pages...
I'm also finding this message somewhat tempting at the same time as disturbing. Must be one drink away from something either way.
