The weird thing happened that my vary proxy item turn transparent in the render image.
I though there is no way to edit the proxy item in the vray material editor. Since the proxy is just fragmented polygon floating in air. It will be nice if it's true.

I as was saying a,I can use the Draw metal plugins however it creates so many faces for the spiral thereby increasing my file size big. how do I address that?

No. You can edit the segments of a circle, but not the cylinder. If you look at entity info of a circle you can change the segments but not when it's been extruded.

Artisan plugin has a tool called "reduce polygons" where you can set the % of reduction. But it won't give you the results you desire on a normal cylinder, works better for a quad/tri mesh as does everything subdivision related.

That is a good trick. I find that is often useful to have the CAD layers intact, in addition to having the CAD group on a layer that can be turned on/off.
