@andrews said: @aceshigh said: Dunno what is happening. It was a long time that I didnt connect Sketchup with GoogleEarth. But now I decided to make some 3D models for my area... and guess what? Sketchup cant IMPORT GoogleEarth terrain, neither it can EXPORT a model to be geographically positioned in GoogleEarth. I dunno what to do. Anyone has any idea? I have tons of plugins installed... maybe one of them is causing the problem? AcesHigh, I can't tell from your message or your profile whether you're using Mac or Windows. Nevertheless, I can at least say that recently, there was a problem with a release of Google Earth that broke SketchUp integration on Mac. The problem was located quickly and a new version of Earth was pushed out to correct the issue, but not before many customers were automatically upgraded to the broken version. Let's try manually forcing Earth to look for updates. Perhaps you're running on an outdated version and your problem will go away if you upgrade. In Google Earth, go to Help...Check for Updates Online. That's what it is on Mac; I can't remember for Windows. If an update is available, download and install it. Then try again. Let us know what you find. Andrew Hi Andrews. I am using Vista 64. I dont think the problem is with GoogleEarth... because... well, because I installed an older version of Sketchup (Skt 6) and it worked flawlessly with GoogleEarth. Its only the currently installed Sketchup7 that can communicate with GoogleEarth. I didnt want to uninstall it because of the tons of plugins I have, VRAY, etc...

With SU 6 there were some glitches with the export (see some details below) so first of all I'd suggest to upgrade to SU 7 (even if you only start with the free version). Otherwise make sure that the image extensions are all lower case (jpg instead of JPG) as well as there are no special characters (maybe even spaces) in the image names.

@gaieus said: @remus said: i think google do it on their end, so you just have to wait. Yes, they do. It takes a while to process every submitted model so from a couple of hours to a day or so... Don't worry, it will be there. Thanks for the quick replies. This is an AWESOME resource!

Kev There is always the tried and tested Photoshop method, extract an above view of only the road, take into PS and paint your road complete with lines and all then save as a texture and apply to road. [image: road1i.jpg] [image: road2a.jpg] [image: road3n.jpg] [image: road4h.jpg]

Except of image compression and geometry compression, I also noticed that 3d-layer models are very different from kmz (via download link in 3dwh), or maybe they are no kmz at all. When you load a very large model as kmz-file, the complete geometry appears first, and then step after step, the complete textures are loaded. When viewing a 3d-layer model, geometry and textures load simultaneously from low detail to high detail. This is similar to progressive file compression as it is available in some graphics programs for jpg, png. Also, there seems to be something like mip-mapping, textures of different resolution are displayed according to the distance of the viewer. Something that made me wonder is that a complex model loads faster from 3d-layer than kmz, but has less performance than the kmz model when orbiting around it. I experienced this for http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=4dbc22f87450a7b96f8be2f10eeff72d

No problem at all with several searches for me. Just guessing, but try closing down all your browser windows and then trying again. If that fails, try restarting your computer. Do you have a different browser installed? If so, try that.

Hi Mike, There is a plugin which would allow you to assign a (web) URL to any entity in SU - say a building that's turned into a group and such. You need to right click though and select the URL item in the context menu and then it will open a "normal" browser window, not a neat, chromeless one within SU. (see url_link.rb here) There were requests for this during development of SU 7 though because (theoretically) dynamic components could do this but AFAIK Google finally didn't include this feature for security reasons. I see you have SU 6 anyway so you couldn't go anywhere with DC's as it needs SU 7. I'm pretty sure however that with some modification of the URL plugin, it could be made nicer in SU because webdialogs have been implemented since that script was written (before SU 6). OR you do the whole presentation in Google Earth and add as much rich html content on click as you want.

Hi Ronald, In the first post of this topic you can find the plugin as an attachment. Read the post carefully as there's another "background" script you need to install as well.

Ditto for keeping XP. I run SU on Ubuntu and it just has too many glitches plus the plugin issues Coen mentions. Just not worth it, I'd stick with Blender for Linux.

Have look at Walkabout 3D or Simmetry 3D. They both have full working trial versions.
