@asbrand said: I am attempting to install the new "free" version of Google Sketchup on a PC (running XP Pro) and am having a bit of difficulty. I do not want to install it to the drive. I always install programs on a different drive, and leave the just for Windows. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make this thing give me the option of where to install. asbrand, I just tested this out and it works exactly as expected when installing anew. The only thing I can figure is that you must already have SketchUp installed on your system. If that is the case, the installer performs an upgrade installation, which does not allow you to modify the destination. This makes sense when you consider how you may have plugins or other pieces of software installed which depend on the installed location of SketchUp, so it can't be changed on upgrade. The only way to fix this is to uninstall Google SketchUp 7 first, from the Add/Remove Programs part of the Control Panel and then download and install it again. When you do that, the installation sequence will be as follows: Welcome EULA Destination folder Ready to install Don't believe me? Check the attached screen capture. [image: Agpu_destination_folder.png] Let us know how it goes.

No. Been running Windows7 64bit since the beta. No issues. First bet would be your drivers.

Hi Jim, hi folks. Try this procedure: 1 - Make sure that everything is visible. Show all layers and unhide all. 2 - Orbit, pan and zoom to get all of your model inside the model window. 3 - Select all (CTRL-A). This will select all the model and, normally, the invisible text object. 4 - Press and hold the SHIFT key down to allows adding/subtracting from the selection. 5 - Do a window select of all the model. This will unselect the model but shall keep that elusive text object as selected. 6 - Press the Delete key. If you have the Model info --> Statistic window open while doing this, you shall see if the number of text objetcs decrease by one. Alternatively, you may try to select the model, hopefully without the elusive text object, copy it and paste it in another empty file opened into another instance of SU. If it works, delete the old file and rename the new one. Just ideas.

@mac1 said: @artichoke1 said: I seem to have a problem when working with large models that an invisible "section plane" in front and parallel with the camera face slices into the model whenever I try to view a detail close-up. This is terribly frustrating, as it is nearly impossible to manipulate small details from a distance. Anyone else have this problem? What is the solution? Thanks. try this http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=36261 Excellent. Thank you very much.

Hi Greg, Note that if you want a realistic arch, you will need to also texture the vertical faces around the opening with the material somewhat radially positioned. Have a look at this tutorial that shows similar results (with bricks but eventually it's all the same): http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21847

Update— It's a mystery, but what was not working for me last night is working this morning. I am able to turn off sections by turning off their layers. When I update the scene it stays updated. Operator fatigue, overheated computer, I don't know what was the issue. Thanks anyway, Jim

@mac1 said: @thomthom said: I'd do what remus suggest. I often set up "working scenes" in my models. Scenes that only changes axis location, or layer visibility etc. Not as elegant as the scene approach but, maybe a working solution for you. The section plane can be moved and rotated and, you can align view to that plane. Sorry tomthom pick the wrong box this should have been for pete

The 2D Tools plug-in sounds really interesting- I'm not that well-versed in how to find things. TIG, could you please tell me where to find HTM (guide?) I looked in the Extenstions index in SketchUcaction, SMustard, and the Library Depot. Did I miss something? Thanks so much. Too new for these locations - look in the Ruby Forum here. A simple search for '2D Tools' finds it... plugins are using found on the first page of the topic http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=185760#p185760 There are lots of exciting new Rubies arriving every day !!! browse the forum...
