Does anyone know if it is possible to place a section pane a fixed distance from the camera so that as I rotate a model I can see a cross section at every point of view. This would be very useful when designing interiors. Thanks

I dont think its currently possible. As an alternative you could try experimenting with using scenes to control section cuts, i imagine with some playing around you could get a pretty powerful setup up and running.

I'd do what remus suggest. I often set up "working scenes" in my models. Scenes that only changes axis location, or layer visibility etc.

Not as elegant as the scene approach but, maybe a working solution for you. The section plane can be moved and rotated and, you can align view to that plane.
