@hellnbak said: do you mean that if I make three copies of an object, there's no way to apply a material to just one of them, that it automatically applies it to all three? There's got to be a way around this, it just makes no sense. No, that only applies to components. They are special "entities" inside your model. Make a cube for instance then select all, right click on the selection and make it a component from the context menu. Now select it again, select the Move tool press the Ctrl button and this way move a copy away. Now you have two instances of the same component in the model. If you edit one (double click) and make any modification "inside", the other instance will "repeat" this modification. This is a good way of having lots of geometry of the same kind in a model. Say you have ten similar windows on a house or four wheels on a car and you decide to modify them - this way you only have to do it once. If you want to modify only one (or two...), select it/them and right click again > make unique. You can add/detract to/from a selection by holding down the Shift key. Now back to your problem. I am not sure why everything changes the material, I have to confess. Could you attach a simple example? As for the material dialog: you can open it from the Window menu. In there, you can browse all sorts of different materials as you know. The default material is the one that you see when starting to model something and have not painted it yet. Generally it is some light colour (and the back face is some bluish/grey) but you can change these. The "In model" materials are what you have already used. They are displayed when you click on that small house icon. [image: Syht_Materials.jpg]

Hello, I think I found where the problem lies: After testing many variations to my formulas, without success, I had the idea of changing the internal units of the component. Being Belgian, I naturally use metric units, so my component was configured with "cm". So I converted all numeric values in inches and reconfigured the component to use same unit. Miraculously, everything works now as expected , even when using the component in a model configured in metric units. I think there's a bug in the function CURRENT("LenX/Y/Z") which should return a value expressed in inches, whatever the choice of internal units. Well, I hope my experience will serve the other! Thank you for your attention, Gerard

Hi folks. If you neglect the opening, that can be added later, there is an 8 fold symmetry in this kind of plan. See this SU file for ideas. Fort with bastions.skp

You could have opened your SU7 (7.1) template in SU8 and then made it your default template for SU8.

Tom, I understand your frustration as a service provider, but I wouldn't want the State buy new cars just because the old ones don't have a video camera providing a view backing up. Aren't the Brit's currently climbing out of one of the worlds worst economic turn downs? Hope you can "hang in there" until things get better.

It'd be from the eye to the sun - as, if I remember correctly, the camera eye needed to be outside the shadows. (You might want to verify this works properly - as I only did it a couple of times, on very simple models. I might have mistaken the conditions that made it work...)

In what context? It's probably best to talk to the head teacher, to gain permission to photograph the children. As a photographer, I do a lot of work with schools, but in my experience photographing can be a nightmare because you need to gain the permission of both the school and the parents. If you can do that, it's a simple case of getting the kids to pose, then using SketchUp to draw around the figures to create those 2D cut-outs, SketchUp's trademark. I don't think there is any other way around this, because of all the laws set out to protect children from exploitation (it's all very silly I know- as if the bogieman is always hiding in the wings- perhaps ) Good luck. (you're probably going to need it! ) Tom

Glad I could be helpful. It is nice to have an exercise that can also serve a purpose, so I have to say thanks in return, right?
