Yes, it could be slow if each of the 1000 components is unique although they could all be selected quickly if they were isolated from the rest of the model with proper use of tags/layers, then they could all be replaced in one step with Replace Selected.

My take on this, Make solids, place, rotate as you want, then outer shell

File size isn't the only indicator of model complexity. The delay could be caused by a number of different things in the model. Complex shadows, hi res images or textures, some style setting, etc. What is the graphics card? Has there been a recent change to the graphics drivers? This is common with Windows updates.

It looks like you are running up against the tiny face limitation in SketchUp. Instead of trying to draw it at 6mm in diameter, set units to meters and draw it so it is 6m in diameter. Then scale the model down after you are finished. These are 4mm bolts which I modeled that way. [image: SeZc_Screenshot-7_11_202012_35_18PM.png] These are 6mm shoulder screws also modeled with the same method. [image: 49627196177_7d2ae945ef.jpg]

Basically I think you are agreeing to using SketchUp Make for hobby stuff only. No commercial work.

@khai said: do... but the one thing I am getting from you dave is the feeling you wish I'd just shut up. is there a problem here? I'm not setting out to annoy you, and I am pointing out a valid point but seriously, I'm getting the feeling you'd rather I leave. I don't know how you got that impression because it couldn't be farther from the truth. I recognize that your point about piracy is valid. I agree with you. On the other hand, the thing Trimble is doing by charging for huge quantity downloads is an attempt to at least slow that down. It won't affect anyone who is actually using SketchUp either professionally or as their hobby.

If the pieces are > 8' long then you must manually edit those SketchUp components and split them into several parts. You'd have to do it to the DXF files too [in CAD] ?? There's nothing that's perfect - as far as I know ? Does CutListOptomizer do it [orthogonal?] ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbfnTOzh7_4 https://www.mynesting.com/ might process DXFs of the parts ? https://www.maxcutsoftware.com/ ?? I'd expect that some CNC software does that optimizing as a later step... But these will assume orthogonal too ? With complex curved shapes like your ribs, then manually locating and rotating them onto a simple 4x8' sheet 'template' underlay component, locked in place, is still likely to be your best solution...

I use the 'Tools On Surface' (by Fredo6) plugin to reconnect lines. It will draw and constrain the new edges to the existing faces and make the task of cleaning this up pretty easy.

Setup the image for Match Photo in a separate SketchUp file. After you have it properly set, copy the building from your project and paste it into that new file. Move the model around as needed to get it aligned with the image. Project your textures and then replace the building in your project with the textured one. Please complete your profile with the SketchUp version along with operating system. That info helps us help you.

the problem is that the other guy is not a good user of corel so it's really hard to edit the file. He can't deal with a dxf or dwg file format. In previous projects it was easy to copy paste the model from PDF into corel! Now the model have many curves and it's not working properly!

Hi Box Yes I can use two finger zoom, but then again, I have to move the hand away from the keyboard... and I actually think the touch ring works better for me, than the two finger zoom. I think I'm just asking for something that isn't possible... Jorgensen

The file you shared is corrupted. Very likely there was a delay in writing to the USB drive. We've seen similar file format problems in the past when files are not locally (internally) saved. It seems to most often happen when saving to the cloud but I've seen it once in awhile when saving to a USB device. The .skb files are backup files that are normally created by SketchUp during autosave. If you can find them you could try renaming them to .skp and see if they will open. If they didn't get corrupted, too, they should open. It's rare that corrupted files can be recovered. Are you using SketchUp 2016 Make as indicated by your profile? Might be the sort of thing where the fastest option is to just get busy creating a new model. This time save it to the local drive and only copy it to the USB drive if you need to make it portable.

Excellent, thank you. I've never encountered that issue before in my 8 or so years of using Sketchup!
