H folks, it now seems to be fine. I had the computer off overnight, not sure if that has anything to do with it working now. At the time clicking on the file did nothing then clicking on the S/Up icon in the dock and clicking open then choosing the file also did nothing. I tried clicking both files that are on my desktop but neither worked. (I presume, as a newbie, that the file with the tilde(?), that is the S on it's side, after the file name is the backup file??) If you have any ideas as to what may have caused the disfunction I would be happy to hear them. For what it's worth I'm using a Mac OS X 10.5.8. Thanks again for your prompt replies.

Okay, I figured it out. In a test file, I got a the camera to orbit a small piece of equipment exactly like I wanted. The key was being able to position the camera...AND aim it at a common fixed point. I knew you could position the camera and create a scene, but I was not aware that you could click, then drag the view of the camera to a fixed point. That was the piece I was missing. Once I figured that out, everything fell into place. No plugins were necessary, as was mentioned. Thanks for the help, and if you were trying to get me to see the point above and I just missed it, my apologies.

I have heard of diffusion but never a slice of tomato diffusing though a layer of cling wrap. Well, at least and still being a slice of tomato on the other side.

@bernardobaldissera said: @unknownuser said: which mouse do you have and did you install any accompanying software with it? I have a Microsoft Mouse 3500. It has a software, Microsoft Intellipoint, but I can only set up generic commands to the central button. Even if I configure command + control as the function of the central button, it doesn't work out. hmm.. yeah, i don't know about that mouse or the software.. sorry pbacot's suggestion of using SteerMouse is probably the way to go if you want to have mouse software other than OSX (which i what i use-- the regular osx mouse preferences.. i don't use any additional software with the logitech mice i use-- but then again, i don't use the middle button for orbiting.. i always use a 5+ button mouse then a thumb button for orbiting in sketchup)

Thanks very much Rich & Cotty -- I certainly appreciate the feedback. I don't know why it was so difficult for me to find this important info without having to come here, register, and ask point blank. It almost seems as if Trimble really would rather folks not be aware of these distinctions up front. ~ too bad.

@bob-designer said: If I delete components of make changes to Outliner in .skp file "A", cause deletions or changes to Outliner in .skp file "B"? No. It shouldn't. The Outliner is specific to the current or active SKP file and has nothing to do with other SKP files. @bob-designer said: If I delete components or make changes to the Component browser in .skp file "A", cause deletions and changes to the Component browser in .skp file "B"? Thank you for your help, Bob Again, no, it shouldn't. IF you are looking at and manipulating the In Model components library.

@dave r said: Do you want to leave the outer component basically as it is? Open that component, select the inner component and hit Edit>Cut (or the appropriate keyboard shortcut), close the component by clicking out in space or via the right click menu. Hit Edit>Paste in place. The component you cut from the bigger component will now be outside the big component but in the same location. You could also do this via Outliner by clicking and dragging the component name from inside the bigger component to outside of it. Thank you! Very helpful.

I wasn't suggesting Sandbox at all. I described the process in one of your previous posts and Cotty has done described it as well. Plugins are great but you do yourself a disservice if you choose to use them instead of learning how the native tools work. It's good you got the path direction sorted.

TIG beat me to it but since I did it... It works just fine for me. I imported it in inches because that was what the importer was set to. If it is supposed to be in mm, TIG has hit on the reason for the problem. [image: GTxP_Hook.png] Hook.skp

If you have 3ds max installed you can install a plugin called SketchUp exporter for 3ds Max. With this you can convert your .max file to .skp file with all textures. For reference kindly check this link, http://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-plugins/SketchUp-from-3DS-main.aspx315

The problem is VRay. The latest version of VRay is not compatible with the latest version of SketchUp. That's why the software crashes. It will take from 1 to 3 weeks before a compatible version of VRay will be released. This is absurd. Why releasing an update of Sketchup if not compatible with VRay? At least, the risk of problems after the update should be mentioned. Considering that I have SketchUp both on my laptop and IMac, and considering that I want to keep the latest version of sketch up on my laptop, is it possible to install Sketchup 8 on my iMac with the same licence? Is it possible to have one licence and install two different versions (SU 2013 and SU of SketchUp on two different machines without creating conflicts? Thank you. I.

You could do this in any of several ways. One way would be to draw a cross section of the table with the radius and use Follow Me to sweep the shape around a circle (or arc)). Another way would be to draw the profile on the back edge of the top and again use Follow Me to sweep the profile around. If kind of depends upon what you've already got drawn.
