No. The measurements box is intended only to accept typed values. It isn't a clickable box, either. That is, if you activate a tool for which a numeric value can be entered, you simply type the value. It sounds to me as if you might be better off to use an extension at can read your table. Look at the various extensions for point clouds.

I generally wait for a period equivalent of the time it takes me to go to the toilet.....if it hasn't responded by then I'll go and get a drink or make a cup of coffee and maybe even make a light snack.....if it's still a no show I wait wait another 5 minutes or so.... ....if that totals 15-20 minutes or so I generally lose patience and close it off and hope that most of it is still there when I reopen it.....!! For me it mostly happens when I import something like a large tree model, or if I have a complex shape using something like Shape Bender....although I will be more patient with Shape Bender because it generally comes good at some point, but sometimes it scares the crap out of me...!! I share your frustration though, especially if it happens when you haven't saved before it 'hangs'. Fortunately though, most often an 'autosave' will get me out of trouble more often than not...!!

@solo said: My first question is why are you modeling in Sketchup if you plan to rig in Blender, has Blender not got better suited tools for such organic modeling? Organic modeling with Sketchup is possible but will require practice and a few plugins, maybe a couple commercial ones. Look at some Artisan (plugin) tutorials for an idea of proxy to subdivision and sculpting options. Solo, thanks for your reply. I have to be honest here, I have actually no experience with Blender too! Just saw on forums one can do rigging with Blender, Max, etc. I have both. I am just now looking at youtube videos on rigging as well in all the programs I have, and on how to use Artisan in Sketchup. Both Blender and Max is not easy for a beginner. I was once trying a building in Blender but stopped it. When I tried the building and finished it up easily in Sketchup I thought everything else will be better too. I do this only for myself for fun. But at times I get confused with the multitude of tools and options. I have also downloaded now Artisan manual. Actually I have used Hexagon 2.5 more with help in the Daz3D forums but not on character creations, just how to cut a pre-made clothing mesh.

You can also use the funny free NeoBarok in a second and save at the end as OBJ format and reload in Sketchup with the TIG Import OBJ! [image: Hpf0_GIF_neo.gif]

@rv1974, do you always 'model' in 'Parallel Projection'? that can to cause weird outcomes unless using 'Standard Views' i.e. no orbiting... Peter, I assuming you don't... john

I believe that recommendation refers to Intel integrated graphics. I honestly would suggest a dedicated Nvidia card, I would discourage AMD due to historical issues with SU. Are you only using the machine for Sketchup? as SU utilizes only one core, so clock speed is important. If you are also planning to render then there are more factors to consider.

@alan fraser said: The major difference between the Pro and free versions is that you can't import/export to CAD files as easily. Also, the free version will not enable you to make Dynamic Components...just use them. There are also one or two extensions (like Solid Tools) that aren't available in the free version. add to that the licence restrictions of Make version, no commercial use...

The go2school video lessons were an excellent resource for me as I started my SU journey.

This sounds typical of a graphics card issue. What kind of GPU does your computer have? You might try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Preferences>OpenGL. Has this just started recently?

Glad you got it sorted. FWIW, you always have to start with an existing style because it's impossible to have SketchUp open without a style. You can modify a style and even change its name without creating a new style if it is in the In Model library.

Make groups or components of these parts... Then select them and use the right-click > context-menu to 'Lock' them in place...

Thanks for the response... I've searched for export STEP (STP), PARASOLID, and IGES with no results... found import plug-ins/extensions but nothing to export... or convert... must be in all the wrong places

@baz88 said: however, whenever it gets that small the model messes up and i can't zoom in close enough. Make sure that the component/group origin stays in the near of the world origin while scaling with the scale tool. @baz88 said: I've tried scaling the 1:1 model by inputting 0.001 and it gets way to small to do anything. 1:300 results in a scale factor of 0,00333333333333333333333333333333... so it will be hard to enter it exactly

@smuncky said: We did a trial run at the office on 2016 and found it, as you put it, sticky as well. The same models that were fine in 2015 felt 'slower' in 2016. I found that opening some files was slower as well and thought that it might be due to the new tray system, but unfortunately, there's no real way to confirm. I went to that setting for the nVidia graphics card, and i'm showing 'Google Sketchup' and not 'Trimble Sketchup'. Could that be the problem? Glad it's not just me then! I also see 'Google Sketchup' in the nVidia settings. Tried uninstalling previous versions but no change.... Anyway having tweaked some settings this doesn't seem to have improved things that I can tell. On a related note, since playing around with the settings my SU has lost its nice straight lines, I mean they were almost flawless before, whereas now they are jagged. Despite restoring the default nVidia settings I cannot get back to my lovely crisp lines. Any expert advice on this would be most appreciated... I feel i've opened a can of worms here!

Yes, fortunately this extension saves the setting in an ini file, so I saw that it was modified and that debug mode was enabled.
