I always use Acrobat to put all my pdf's together into one document. Of course, I have to use another software to do all my blueprinting, since layout is so useless and so I end up only exporting pretty pictures from SU and for that, I, too< always use PNG.

I tried it; it is not quite what I“m looking for. I found quite interesting the polyline tool and the IRender. Thanks again for the link.

Thanks Jakob, I think you're right but I didn't realise I had to explode the 'parent' component... If this is the case, i think i would rather build the component to cut the external wall and just draw a rectangle at the intersection of the inner face of the wall and delete the face... that way if you need to remove the component, at least the out wall will re-build on deletion...

It could be a Graphics Card problem. What is your Graphics Card ? Have you downloaded the latest Drivers for your Graphics Card ? If not, then try to get and install updates - new OS's often require new drivers... Also try SketchUp menu Windows > Preferences > OpenGl and try permutations of the settings to see which gives the best display visual-affects...

Dear Pilou, That is the good thing about SU. One can imagine it, and then make it a (virtual) reality. I like the colour scheme. Regards, Bob

No, Gaieus, I haven't downloaded it yet, although I plan to. Time and other worries are not the reason, but an overloaded hard drive is. I have an external drive, but my HD is so full that it won't recognize it! My computer guru has me putting all my photos onto DVD's, so that I can clear up enough space. Otherwise my external HD won't do me much good. Thanks for the compliment! And the good wishes. Gigi

Hi, Install Quicktime. Then visit: http://www.go-2-school.com/podcasts Some great tutorials here. After watching each movie simply right click on the movie window and select "Save as quicktime movie". You can then build up a whole collection that you can burn to disc and watch at your leisure. Dear Flo, Did you check your Windows update history to see if something happened between the good days and the bad days? Are the folks at Google checking to see that Sketchup is not affected by Windows updates, and if it is, finding solutions? Regards, Bob

Another commercial software. I also tried Reality4D and 3dRAD. However, the trial limitations of Walkabout3D will not cripple my purpose. But, is still trial, I think I could also give a go with Crytek and Oblivion game engines or maybe IrrEdit. Guys, do you know other free or open-source softwares that do this stuff?

Hello, Note that any geometry created in any way (using the drawing tools, intersecting, draping and such) will always be created on the active layer. So to assign any draped lines on a specific layer on the fly, just make that layer active (with the round radio button left of its name).

@dsarchs said: You could also do a quick model in Blender [or similar] using the fluid simulator and import that into sketchup. Cheating, I suppose, but that's a specific thing that other programs are just much better at [and free, in the case of blender]. Use the right tool for the job. There's no such thing as cheating, only using the right tool for the right task.

set designer, You should note that SketchUp doesn't actually do curves. All circles, arcs, bezier curves, etc. are composed of straight-line entities. After import, you can select a curve and change the number of line segments, if you need a smoother 'curve.' (At least, that is usually reported as effective.) After selection, look in the 'Entity Info' dialog box, and therein change the number of segments. Taff

Hi, You do not have to create faces to use the From Contours tool. If you have your curves/contours drawn, you can just use the Move Tool to place them at the required height. So create your lines, move them to required height, select all and click From Contours. There is a Ruby script which I use a lot and creates a Polyline from a series of separate lines. It is called Weld.rb. You can find it here
