The intention of this exercise was to move one component and have it immediately affect to color of another by reinterpreting its X value. This result is a failure. It requires an intermediate set of actions. The user must select the interact tool and click on the component. Perhaps someone with more knowledge and better skills (which would be just about anyone here) will see something I missed. The three sliders, SliderR, SliderG and SliderB's X attribute is evaluated as: =NEAREST(CURRENT("X"),0,0.015748,0.031496,{...},3.984252,4.000000) ColorCube Material=CONCATENATE(INT(ABS((SliderR!X/IncAmt))),",",INT(ABS((SliderG!X/IncAmt))),",",INT(ABS((SliderB!X/IncAmt)))) ColorCube onClick=REDRAW() Slider DC v1.skp

It could be a permissions issue...ie. the licence info not being accepted. I had the same problem on Vista and needed both to intall SU as an admin...and run it as an admin.

No David, This is just a diagnostic test that there is something wrong with your video card/driver. You should update your driver to be fully compatible with OpenGL (thus SU) in order to work better on large models as well.

Yeah, the help is replaced with the helpcenter. Which is a way of taking all the help offered and turn it into an amazing labrynth of articles that dont relate well to eachother...... Chris I'd like a great big PDF with all that info.

There is also a set of DC's in the "Google Sketchup 7\Components\Dynamic Components Training" folder as part of the installation. However the best way to learn I found was to download this one (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=ce5eddf19a1cd04d4af4635b6ebb0145) from the warehouse, loads of examples all in one file.

I later saw Rick's post but well... @kevin_walker said: This won't be a deal breaker for most, however any Chief Architectect users will find v7 files will no longer open in C.A. X-1. Version 6 files will. A work around is to export as 3ds from v7 and import back into Chief with the 3ds file. (I realize this is not a Sketchup problem) Just a note to any Chief Architect X-1 users. I am hopeful for v7 and so far I like some of the new changes. Kevin Kevin, you can always save your SU 7 model in SU 6 format (just scroll down the pulldown on saving). This can always be a workaround with every 3rd party app until they update their importers.

Was it a surprise? not really, however i was using a ruby i do not use regularly and with subdivide it worked better than I imagined. This one I intended to make a stone/rock ancient road, I used the protrude for basic shape, then used subdivide 2 iriterations, then FFD to create curve and turn in road, then made component and duplicated it four times to create a road. [image: bumpyroadyt9.png] serving suggestion: [image: roadromexd4.png] This scene in Vue is just over 30 million polygons as every blade of grass is a mesh.

@remus said: Wouldnt want any fence sitting now Stinkie, i think they are working on some big stuff. Bit of a guess really, but i dont think theyre stupid enough to sit around and not do anything about the speed issues. I don't think they're stupid either. I do think, however, that the 'speed issues' are not their prime concern. You remember the concerns Kwisten vented some time ago? You know, about SU becoming a tool (or toy?) for people who want to populate GE? He was right. In effect, Google is smart. But it's not the kind of smart your typical modeling app user will benefit from in the long run.

See this thread but with no real conclusions. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12349&p=89084&hilit=kenny#p89084 I also get frustrated with it. It's usually on large models printed at A1 or larger. Daniel is right however, Layout will print out ok without the texture issues. If you do still use Sketchup directly I've found that Adobe Acrobat is the worst culprit. I also use Cute PDF and PDF Creator. They work more often than not. Also in Advanced Preferences print settings try ICM Method: handled by printer, ICM Intent: Graphics, Advanced printing Features: Disabled. I don't really know what these are meant to do but through trial and error have found they work more often. Kenny

jantglez, Welcome to the SCF! If you're talking about longitude/latitude, or theta/rho angular (spherical) coordinates for points on the surface of a sphere, SketchUp does not natively support those coordinate systems. SketchUp expects cartesian (x,y,z) coordinates. I typically use a spreadsheet to convert from angle/vector coordinates to cartesian coordinates. I then import the cartesian coordinates into SketchUp, using a '.dxf' data file, or '.csv' file (using a ruby plugin.) Both are text data file formats. SketchUp natively supports the import of DXF files. To import a CSV file, you can download and install the "Cloud_V6.rb" plugin from this page... Ruby Library Depot ...thanks to Didier Bur. (The plugin is 'zipped' as "Cloud_V6.zip") The cloud plugin will import points only (i.e.; a "points cloud".) A properly-formatted DXF file can import points, lines and polygons, but, as expected, is a more-complicated file to generate with a spreadsheet. Note that I use these methods for geodesic dome constructions (3D Warehouse - Geodesic Collection) If you don't need to cover a spherical area, but only a small patch on the surface (such as earth longitude/latitude), then other means may be available to you. I must, apologetically, leave comments on those potential methods to others, who have more experience importing GIS and longitude/latitude survey data. Regards, Taff

But I can give my model a geographic location using the "Geographic Location" options located underneath this tickbox. Wondering what this new thing does.

@solo said: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=9342&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=cloth Hallo Pete, that is really an impressive work! However I was looking for something more general. Think of a group of 3D letters, e.g. "PETE". If I was to drop a cloth over them, I would not really know how the final image would come out. And even if I did, I would not know how to draw it! I'd like SketchUp to do the job for me... Thanks anyway!

Hi Chris. I like your model. It's a nice example of the DC potential. After all, the main question is how DC can improve our productivity in the daily work. The DC feature is meaningless if there is no improvement, but a waste of time. It's a fancy thing to open/close door, but it should serve a purpose. In my work as a constructor, I always have looked for solution to automate repetetive tasks. I have tried many different CAD solutions, and many are quite good in doing autotasks . But I have never trusted their final output when it comes to details, mainly because other people have set the parameters/conditions. In SU I have full control of the output and details, because I am making the parameters fit my way of thinking/solving problems. How I see it, the DC- feature sets me in a position to save a lot of time with deploying/shaping components, gives me full control over the parameters and at the same time gives me the good "look what I have done" feeling when things work properly. So hopefully there will be a lot of useful DC out there, which can be shared. One last thing. I miss an option to lock access to attributes and even to components, preventing people from altering code. Keep up with the good work Chris! Dagfinn
