Hiya I think you need to synchronize materials under Plugins>VRay>Debugging>Force sync for all materials. I have this set to a shortcut because it's buried in sub-menus Cheers Corey

So a few tips; don't change your dynamic memory limits to such high numbers. Sketchup can only access up to 3.8/3.9 gigs of ram (3800/3900mb) before it crashes. Its still a 32 bit program, and we have to work inside those 32 bits. The dynamic memory limit is measured in megabytes not gigabytes or kilobytes. So when you use large numbers, like what you're putting into your dynamic memory limit, you're not actually helping your rendering speeds. If you set it to 0 its automatic and V-Ray will figure it out on its own. By default its set to 1024, so its a little slower, not noticeable in small renders, but more stable with larger ones. I'd suggest changing it to 2048, or 3072 if you would like to access more memory. The next thing I would suggest you try doing is using the 64-bit workflow to prevent large, complex scenes from running out of memory. When running this method, set your dynamic memory limit to 0. See the attached PDF Document for more information. The 64-bit work flow, along with other helpful tutorials can be found on help.chaosgroup.com/. 64-BitWorkflow.pdf

There are a bunch of tutorials on the website: http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help/sketchup/150PB/tutorials.htm This topic is covered by our interior rendering tutorial. Take a look, there's a lot of really helpful tutorials there. Also, let me know if there are specific tutorials you would like me to put together!

@ohichyo said: Another thing that I couldn't find out yet is how to make the reflection in the wooden floor smoother. Is there any setting in the reflection layer (or any other) I can change to make that happen? Yes, you should reduce the "glossiness" value for highlight and reflection to something like 0.75 or so. Then you need to up the reflections subdivisions to something like 24 or 36 to keep it smooth (otherwise at lower values it gets grainy)

@jiminy-billy-bob said: @coreymurray said: (double sided tick box in option in mat editor) This tick box only means that the material will be applied to both sides of the polygons. A Vray2sided Mtl is a really special material. It allows you to have different materials between the front and back sides of your polygons, and blend these two materials together (and the light they receive) depending on a grey value (or map). This allows you to mimic translucency for very thin objects (one face only): Paper, leaves, curtains, etc. https://www.google.fr/webhp?#q=vray%202sided Thanks for the explanation Jiminy - that's a really powerful technique.

You need to subdivide you're sphere more to give V-Ray something smoother to render. I'd Suggest manually making your sphere using circles with more sides (48-64) or using a plugin like Artisan to subdivide and smooth your surface.

I believe the 4 light restriction is due to you using the Demo version of the software. If you upgrade to the full version that should go away. Rob

Do you use its render feature? How does it integrate your workflow? Do you see how it could be improved for rendering? (I'm the author, I would love to hear your feedback on this. And what CG USA in general think of it)

Again, I can't help unless you give me a little more information to go on. Open Sketchup and go to Plugins> V-Ray> Open Debug Window. What is the full version of V-Ray that you are running "2.00.XXXXX". There is a service release out that fixes a lot of the issues with RT. It could also be an incompatibility with your computer system so specs of the computer are useful see thread: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=322%26amp;t=26019. The more information you provide, the easier it is for me to help. "RT bug-splats when I render." is not helpful when trying to track down a problem.

What are your specs? I downloaded your model and it rendered in 2 minutes after I changed the settings back to default. I noticed your Dynamic memory limit was set to 10,000. Don't do that. Im thinking that might have been the problem. Leave it as a default setting, or set it to 1024, 2048, or 3072. This is how you allocate your ram for a rendering to prevent crashes. The lower the number the slower the render (on larger jobs), but it also makes the rendering process more stable.

Hi marekorv, Could you please email support@chaosgroup.com with this issue and send a packed scene and model so that we can test it? To pack a scene go to Plugins>V-Ray>Pack Scene, this ensures we recieve all the associated assets. In the meantime you can try some things to see if it will fix your scene: Force Sync all materials: Go to Plugins> V-Ray> Debugging> Force sync all materials Try Copying all of your geometry into a new clean empty Sketchup scene. Be sure all associated materials/textures are in a location on a local drive that V-Ray can access. Let me know if any of those solutions helped and when you contact support, let them know you spoke to Ted in the US office initially via the Sketchucation Forums. You may also want to look in the Forums on the http://www.chaosgroup.com website for other solutions to this issue.

And in my opinion, the elevation you want won't benefit from rendering that much. The benefits of a rendering vs a sketchup elevation has to do with material and light, right now your reflective material looks flat because there is nothing to reflect, just a grey background, try adding a billboard or something to reflect behind the camera. Secondly, the lights have very little material to lighten, the glass has a bit of reflection of the light but nothing more. Maybe add a floor plane to show the effect of the lights. Rob

This may also have to do with image resolution. If your image is noticeably tiled, than your grass displacement will look tiled as well.
