I came back to this topic as I needed refreshing on LO dimensions only to conclude once more that LO dimensions badly need to be revamped. it is fine to dimension 2D stuff but dimensioning a 3D view is a nightmare, dave's workaround notwithstanding..

let's hope the sketchup people under trimble will take LO ahead.

I use PDF995 it installs as a printer port on your computer, so you just print as if you were plotting your plans on a printer. it prints out in a pdf file on your computer and the file sizes are very reasonable. this way I can skip the whole export thing. I use it in autocad as well.

Have you tried a permissions repair, logging out, then restarting?

How about reinstalling your font book? Or reinstall from the disc that comes with your pc?

Also note that vector rendering will not render your image textures but colours instead. If you want sharp, vector based edges but with textures, use hybrid rendering. That's also the slowest I think however.

If I am making a publication where I must combine many kinds of material and SketchUp appears only as renders, and the material is unlikely to change, then I use InDesign or Illustrator, but for a presentation of a SU design, especially if design changes are likely to happen, LayOut has proven very useful to me, as updating the model is a snap, compared to outputting every view as a separate image or drawing file, postprocessing these to fit the publication, and adjusting every page for the inevitable glitches appearing in the process.

Best is to keep it on automatic unless the model is very complex and LO is unresponsive. In that case, sometimes it's better to be able to control when it becomes unresponsive. (Just like automatic vs. manual saving in SU although of course, not that risky)

Gracious that's helpful, Box. As a former user getting back in the saddle, I'm amazed at all the useless lines I drew and erased to dimension to lines (not points). The tip should be a part of the SU docs and instruction.

Well, I'm glad you got it sorted out while I was away.

By now you should have added your new scale to the list so you won't need to do that again.

It's not really a paint tool but a sample tool - similar to what the SU paint toll loks like when you press the Alt key (on Windows at least).

    Hi Keea1111,

Are you working on a network and is anyone else opening the files you are working on? Ive had lots of issues with files going missing because Im working from a PC server (Im on mac) and the way that mapped drives are named on a PC is not recognised by macs. This means that if when my colleague (who works on PC) opens a LO file Ive worked on the linked SU files are missing when I open it.

    Just a thought . . .

Hi guys...Thanks for heads up though. Dave, Please i use sketchup for all my drawings and seem to have my way around all issues and produce very good works that people think its Cad.
However i dimension from wall to wall. That's fine as its very precise but i want to know how i can dimension center to center too. I sometimes create grid lines centers of all my walls and group them then, before i pull them up, save as a scene on different layers. it works fine but any changes after extrusion i.e pull up creates another problem and i go bak to dimension wall to wall.

i wish to ask if there is a go around or easy approach to center to center dimension of walls in layout. With columns is easy because you have them distinct members but walls run through and picking center to center in Layout is not easy at all.

Hope to get some trick from u guys.
    Thanks to Sketchup guys..
