I hope someone can help. I've been drafted by a non-profit organization I belong to to create a fundraising poster. Here's the L.O. file.SORA Funraiser Poster.layout
I'm having trouble exporting it in a 24" X 36" poster size that I can take to the local Kinkos to have made into a poster. I exported it in a 1 to 1 scale, but that's as far as I've gotten. I'm not sure what format I should use to export it as well. Everthing I export when I go to view it I get only a small portion of the poster.Any help is much appreciated.

You are using different paper size for Your project - A4. Use the same paper size that will be printed. Some references are missing and it is hard to see the whole project.

You had a4 specified as the document size. I corrected that and exported it to PDF. The layout suffered a little, I am afraid, we seem to have different font specifications.

You could have created the whole poster in LayOut, IMO it has nothing that would have required the use of SketchUp. (Perhaps some 2D illustration/page layout app might have done as well or better)

            Thanks for the quick replys.
Dedmim, I could not seem to find size page I needed, where do you find a poster size page? Not sure what references you refer to that are missing. I downloaded it and once I zoomed out I could see the entire poster.
Anssi, I downloaded your file but all I get is a could not render warning.
I've never been succesful at exporting a full size templet and would dearly love to as it's something I could use in shop on a daily basis.

OK, went back and found the size I needed (Ad 24x36) and exported it as a pdf, but when it opened I only get a partial of the circle picture and the background has changed from yellow to black.

There are two places to set it:

                • your template that you can control/modify under File > Document setup > Paper
                • and the actual paper size you want to print it on under File > Print setup.

                Gai...

                  Thanks Gaieus,
The first part I figured out.
The second part, I have page setup instead of print setup. Under that I have no 24x36 page size, I assume because my printer does not print to that size, ergo the reason I wish to take the file to Kinkos to have them do it. The problem is how to do that.

                    OK, Page setup, true.

I don't know... I have a printer installed that can only print A4 but I can set the page up to A0 (that would be 5 times larger)

                    Gai...

Went back to "page setup" to triple check just in case I missed something. I have every option for index cards and photos known to man, but nothing approaching 24x36. Is it a function of my personal printer, or is this the options that came with LO ? If LO, how can I get the bigger sizes so I can make this work? If my printer, do I need to go buy another one just to get the size options ? I have HP Deskjet 5600 currently installed.

I also have PDFCreator installed. It installs in the system as a virtual printer, maybe try to install it, too:

I have the PDFCreator installed already, and it's a go. Thanks for the suggestion ! Worked perfectly, now if I can only remember it next time I need to do something similar.

Uh oh, spoke too soon. When I convert to a pdf I get this crosshatch of lines dividing the poster into ten or so squares. What can I do to rid these lines. I have no idea where they came from as I don't have them in the LO file.

You probably have the grid turned on to print.

Go to file/document set up/grid. At the bottom there are options to print the grid or not.

                                Slimdog,
It's not the grid setting. That's the first thing I checked. The grid is in 24 equal squares though on the pdf. I'm still baffled.

Does it not work using the native File->Export->PDF (I assume you're seeing this problem with PDFCreator)?

                                    John,Otis,

The file I posted was exported directly from LayOut. For some reason Otis has difficulties opening it - it opens OK in my Adobe Acrobat 9. File>Properties says that it is a version 7 file, so it seems that LO export into that. What version of Adobe Viewer are you using?

Yes, it does it as well in the native file-pdf method as well. When I export it as image it appears ok. I don't know if they can print the poster from such a file or not. Will ask them tomorrow.
