Could you share an example LO file that shows this problem? I do this frequently in LayOut and have never had any difficulty with it.

Sounds good, CASCA, I've got the dwg in layout now. Thanks. All I need to do now is learn about stroking and filling. There are lots of Illustrator similarities here but different enough to keep me guessing. But I can already smell that vector logo!

No. You can save custom LayOut templates you might have made but not toolbar locations.

You really ought to upgrade to SketchUp 2015, though.

Agreed! And make it easy to revert to the style saved in SU scene after tweaking with other styles...

From your description not sure what you want. You just, say ,have a line and want to add a vertex along it? I don't get the dragging-and-adding description. This is one of the few things that LO CAN do. Double click on line, then click on it with the option key down.

I do extensions and renovations using Sketchup and LayOut exclusively.

    I make the following models:

survey model (of existing) - simply modelled. design model - for finishes, furniture layout, and discussions with client construction model - for technical putting together of buildings

I have in the past tried to put all those models into one, using layers for demolished walls, etc, but it soon got tedious, and I work in the above way now. Keeping models separate also has the advantage of keeping model sizes down and therefore your modelling speed up.

I don't use another 2D CAD program at all. I do my sketch plans on tracing paper, then go straight to Sketchup to get my accurate drawings.

That's like the way I've outlined below. I do sometime split the model into different parts but I'm always afraid of not keeping the main information centalised as I can get mixed up between version changes. I might take particular sections of the build and show them separately but the central model is paramount.

    Thank you.
    I WILL check that out.
The price is right if it'll do what I need it to do.
I'll try out the Free Trial.

    Thanks for the tip.

Oops! I guess I forgot to apply the material to the faces of the back of the box. 😳

    Oh well.

I am pleased with the way the seal turned out.

One of the guys involved in the project has been making the medallions out of wood using his laser to burn the wood. He's doing them for all branches of the service. This one was the first decent image I found in a Google search. Minimal work to make it usable here.

Yes, the seal looks great. I was in the Army during Vietnam but spent my time in Germany. Got lucky!!

That's an interesting method. I do something similar once in awhile. I draw the line, copy it with Ctrl-C and then edit the original to make it white. Then Ctrl-V to paste the copy over the white one.

More often, when I need those lines, they are drawn in temporarily in SU. After I've traced over them in LO, I go back to SU, delete the lines and save the file. The viewport gets updated when I go back to LO.

I'll have to remember this one. Thanks

Are you suggesting there is a plug in or extension to help Layout create radius dimensions?

    Thanks,

    Ron

There's nothing in that request to indicate there's a plugin or extension for radius or diameter dimensions. The method I showed is still the way to add those in LayOut.

What version of SketchUp/Layout are you using? Please complete your forum profile.

How about hiding the edges at the seam line and any faces in that seam in each group in SketchUp? Then you don't need to worry about creating a mask in LO.

I do this sort of thing frequently to disguise that there are two separate components next to each other. I did that on this chair, for example.

Hi David, this is Drew from QA on LayOut. Would you mind sharing a copy of the file with me directly? If we have it in house we can run some diagnostics on it and hopefully tease out the error. This issue is nearly impossible for us to re-create from scratch. You mentioned that is has been occurring for some time for you. Do you recall the earliest version of LayOut you saw it on? Also, what type of machine are you using? Thanks David and I'm sorry for this frustrating issue. My email address is drew@sketchup.com if you'd like to talk directly or send a file.

Maybe I was not clear in explaining my problem. The reason they are unreadable is because they are too small and hence hard to read.
    Thanks

All you should have to do is Update the Reference in LO (once you've saved the latest changes in SU). Copy and past from SU to LO is not needed for model references.

If this is happening after unlinking and embedding --could be a bug. but maybe it's too late and you are embedding the altered version of the SU file. So you've lost the old version?

There are actually 2 'numbers' - the page name is automatically generated when the pages are created / duplicated. The page number is a numeric variable that stays consistent with how many pages you have.

You can change the page name to anything you want.
The page # stays what it is, and will update if you change the order of the pages.

To make use of this check out the new auto text features - there are tags for both page # and page name.

Richard, I've never had any problem with shapes failing to fill.

But your method works, too. To each his own. πŸ˜‰

David, if your shape is rectangular and only one side to be remove there is no issue. However if you draw a rectangle and assume you wanted opposing edges to be deleted (so slice on all corners) the fill will fail.
