At certain zoom levels it get wiggly for me. at others not. On a MBP, Preview. And it changes if I put in on another monitor. I think you see better results on a Retina display, but few people have those--and good printing is important.

If you haven't had the problem with other files, I would start removing the references in the problem LO file to see if it's one of them.

You're right. I forgot about that. So I edited my original post to leave out that confusion. Thanks!

Thanks, I was thinking something along these lines. Funny is, that it is my integrated graphic card even though i have another nvidia card. I probalby need to change the priority or renstal drivers for both of them.
It good to now that, problem is on my side and i can focus on fixing it.

The pages/Scenes have no style settings and are only for the camera...
with this one i'm using ImageMagicks to resize at higher dpi and switching to a vivid background to keep the white material when making the background transparent...

I can probably do it with built in apple stuff but this is an attempt at being cross platform...

Pretty cool. I'll pm you when I get a set of drawings off my desk. Been head down and drawing all week.

OK, looks like we've worked out where the problem lies. Here's for the benefit of those who may have similar issues:

When a file is created in Sketchup and sent to Layout, all the information about that file, including lighting, gets sent to Layout. If you subsequently make changes to your Sketchup model and update Layout, those changes are applied to the Layout file. All except the light and shadow. Light and shadow only gets updated if you save the changes in the Sketchup model first.

Our solution will be to change the light and shadow settings in the templates used so that the correct settings are available to Layout from the start.

Thanks to all who took an interest!

Your description makes it clear you aren't working with SketchUp and LayOut correctly. The proper workflow is to create scenes in SketchUp that get used as viewports in LayOut. If you need to make changes in the SketchUp model that include changes to the style, shadow settings, etc. you need to update the scene(s) in SketchUp and save the file. then in LayOut, update the reference and the changes you made will be displayed in the viewport.

It is important that you maintain the link between the SketchUp scene and the LayOut viewport. If the scene associated with the viewport in the SketchUp inspector shows as modified, the link between scene and viewport has been broken. Avoid breaking that link by not editing the viewport in LO.

It is also important that styles used in scenes in the SketchUp file do not show as modified with unsaved changes. If the style thumbnail shows circular arrows, it has been modified but the changes are unsaved. click on the thumbnail to update the style.

There's a warning window that should pop up when you try to create or update a scene with a style that has unsaved changes. If you have disabled that warning, enable it. Then when that warning appears choose either create new style or Update existing style as appropriate.

Weird, I responded to this last night using "quick reply" but it must not have posted. Anyways, I couldn't delete the texture but what I did was simply adjust the RGB to black for that one material and that worked perfectly! Thank guys, really appreciated!

You can edit the dimension extension lines by double clicking on the dimension and then selecting the extension line. Change the End Arrow: value to change the length and Start Arrow: to change the space between the extension line and the point you're dimensioning to.

Also take a look at the drop down for the end style. Notice there are several straight line options. If you've got the first one selected, it'll be different from the last one in the list.

    Hi-

That definitely sounds like a bug in LayOut. You may be able to reduce your exposure to the issue by regularly manually saving the file to a backup file name, but that's an annoyance that shouldn't be necessary. I'd be very interested to get a copy of your corrupt file, especially if you've found a way to reliably reproduce the problem.

Also, for faster response from the SketchUp team I'd recommend posting in the official SketchUp forum (forums.sketchup.com). Except during a release, I tend to only have the time to read SketchUcation a few times a month.

    Thanks,
    Marc

It's certainly not something you can set from inside LO mate! 😞

Hybrid is the rendering option for a SU model reference inside LO. If the SU model dialog window shows "hybrid" in the lower right, then that model will output (print, pdf etc.) as hybrid. It's not a sort of export.

Hybrid is a rendering of the SU model so that the edges are vectorized (relatively hard and sharp lines) and the textures and shadows and other SU raster effects are still visible.

Oh ya, my content is quite far from the origin. I did not purposely do it but just randomly develop this drawings from some old drawing. Thanks for giving me the advice.

I have the 2014 package with me, but when I model in Sketchup I prefer using Sketchup 8 as it is more handy and I have less plugin with it, which can make my computer faster.

    Thank you very much!

Thanks for the replies. I am going now without relinking after having worked home and return to office and see if they sync back up. It is good to understand the 'absolute path' and will match that path in the future.

At first I thought it was "seeing through" the back face of the bottom of the yellow box, but removing the face doesn't help. I don't know why the same pure color is not seen in LO, at the overhanging corners. Seems wrong that LO does not represent the SU view. Maybe there's another trick.

Also, for more control, try using grey for some lines in skp. Just make sure that the style you use has lines set to by material and try painting faces, instead of groups/components.
