      Hey everyone,

Is there a way to dimension diameters and radii in Layout? I work in the manufacturing of custom booths and everyone on our design team really feels like this feature is lacking from the entire layout experience.

We're trying to move from autocad to layout for our entire production line up but not being able to add simple arc, circle and spline diameters and radii on our technical drawings really is a bummer.

Do you guys have any pointers?

There's no "one click solution" to that but...

If you dimension from the center to a quadrant of a circle it get's the radius. If you dimension from one quadrant to the other you'll get a diameter.

So it's just the matter of graphical display. If you use no starting arrow for your dimension and any arrow you wish for the endpoint, you can create a radial dimension. You must dimension radius by clicking the center button first though you might change arrows orders.

For diameter it reaally is simpler. Dimension from one side to the other and you're set.

The trick with both dimensions is to get rid of the reference lines, wich you can't! But you can hide them: you just have to double click the dimension and select each reference line and remove stroke...

Now you can save those dims as scrapbooks.

I would like to see radius and diameter dimensions added, too. In the meantime, I do them manually using the label tool like this:

You can draw radius or diameter lines across the circle or arc if you need them using the line tool.

I would like to use an AutoCAD like radius dimension in sketchup Layout. Are you suggesting there is a plug in or extension to help Layout create radius dimensions?

              Thanks,

              Ron

There's nothing in that request to indicate there's a plugin or extension for radius or diameter dimensions. The method I showed is still the way to add those in LayOut.

What version of SketchUp/Layout are you using? Please complete your forum profile.
