Change your GI to just use Irradiance Map - no second engine Change your Image Sampler to fixed set it to 1 Turn off any displacement mapping Change your DMC Sampler Subdivs multp to .5 Your render will look like crap, but will render fast - good for test. CANT WAIT FOR RT!!!!!

Hi Jason. Thank you very much. I've applied clay material and got last scene rendered in an hour with SL=16 and Res:790*427! I read the discussion about AMD/Intel performance differences when it comes to R2. I guess there is no way to discover which material causes an issue(as long as i don't have a full version of maxwell) so i should just hide all the objects and them open them one by one to see what causes the increase in rendering time. Or alternatively I can just become a clay-addict) Thanks a lot for your help!

No, not that I know of. You can setup DR Spawner if you have a network (up to 10 machines), but it does have bugs in the latest version and is not stable.

That's a valid point -- for while now we've all been re-using this thread: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=41040 So there alot of information in there already, there are a few others, but that is the one I use myself... I actually get an email whenever somebody posts to that thread so I know there's something here I need to look at. Best, Jason.

Thanks for the link. Wish I had that 3 months ago when I worked on past project. I should mention that I did not have much luck with Zorro with a very complex high poly model imported from Revit.

the idea of turning of the light is meant especially for the beginner..the sun is a super strong omni light and to compensate it you need to balance the exposure with vray physical camera. THis balancing act creates a different effects with IES light even. and many users becomes even frustrated... therefore so that you are not solving many things at the same time and you are only looking at IES light effects, its useful to turned off your sun and the camera. this time you only have to take care of your IES lighting. I have done lots of tutorial with VRAY IEs lighting and they are everywhere. One piece of advise,, units affects the ies data. vray working unit is inches. so be sure your unit is in inches...

Hi! It was I who wrote this question back in 2012 and I haven't worked with any 3D-visualization since then. But I have missed it a lot and I'm thinking about start again. So I have been playing around with free version of Sketchup 2015 and Maxwell Render. And it's about lights again. Is it impossible to create a nice render of a kitchen interior with the free version of Maxwell Render? Are there better performance and options available in the paid version? If I do a room with a big box in Sketchup and open one side. I then create some spotlights and point the face downwards inside the box, I see no light at all from them! The outside light is sky without the sun and time is set to evning. Shouldn't there be any light? Is the paid version of Maxwell Render worth the money or are there any other free or low cost renders out there that is better? Renders made by SU Podium seems very realistic, especially the of interiors. Kerkythea is free, but I guess there has been no development with that since the release in 2008? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I have just changed the color to be darker. It's not a texture, just plain color material. And I have pressed the refresh button several times, but it still render the old color!? Help!?

ok I will use the study material in sketchup ... I hope that in future versions should offer a clearer preview from the ... 100x100 we understand little. I agree with valerostudio... the magic word "preset", add "library materials" and "realistic preview" (at least 600x600 see indigo render). thanks to all friends

@andybot said: Does it say if it's APS-C or full frame sensor? Does the SU lens length assume 35mm film? AFIK - yes. For matching photos from digital cameras (without using PhotoMatch) I've been using conversion tables that convert the digital lens to 35mm and that seem to work. But note that SU might some times work on the vertical size instead of the horizontal or diagonal size - and it's pretty much impossible to tell.

I'm not sure what to tell you on this -- smoothing renders as it should on my machine. Best, Jason.

Glad you got it sorted -- it's not rules perse but there have been issues here in the past in regards to this forum which is for shared use by many different 3rd party software. I'd rather not go through that again so I just wanted to preemptively reduce the possibility of conflict. Best, Jason.

@thenajsays said: have light as an emissive material currently, but I've experimented with various setting, IES lights and spot lights, and I still see the same issue. Did you try rendering the scene with no emmissive material? Try to get your lighting right without the emm. mats to make sure you have enough light in your scene. @panixia Increasing the HSph. subdivs in the irradiance map settings will help reduce the splotchiness, but it won't fix the emissive "sparkles" that we see.

@notareal said: GTX580 is not a bad at all. But as used architecture between kepler and fermi is rather different, cuda core to core comparison is difficult. There been talk that GTX6xxx series is inferior to GTX5xxx series, but this seems to be true only in some spesific instruction that Thea does not use. When some new CUDA features are used, GTX6xxx has some benefits. It would be very interesting to see a speed comparison between a 580 and a 680...
