I often experience that when I open a file with scenes the light is not correct. Appears that SU doesn't apply the sun lighting even though I've set it to do so. I have to slightly change the shadow settings before it activates again. Then I have to Update the scene. However, every time I reload the file I have to do this.

Also, some times the time range for the sun is odd. In the file I'm currently working on it only ranges from 03:28 to 12:37. Month is June. I can type in manually a time. But why is the time range so short? It that some sort of feature I don't understand, or is it a bug?

        Thomas,

Yeah I get this all the time- the worst thing is that I use the VRay for SU plugin which also has a shadow settings bug and when the two bugs from each prog collide it can really screw things up- sometimes I have to reset both SU and Vray shadow settings 10 times just to get the VRay shadow result I want. Good news is that Tricia @ Google assures me that this will be fixed in SU7. I'm amazed more people haven't complained about it- it affects about 80% of my SU files and wastes a LOT of valuable time.

I recently discovered another aspect to this bug, although it may be connected with the VRay bug- on closing and reopening one of my SU files, the actual times shown in the shadow menu slider (sunrise and sunset times) were completely wrong! I had it set for Malmö, Sweden and it was telling me that the sunset would be 12:46pm for June- when it should about 9pm in the evening. When I went to model info to check the location it was giving me the choice of TWO Malmös- which were an hour apart! After updating the scene, saving, closing and reopening the file the sunset time had reset to 12:46pm again and since then there has only been ONE Malmö.... it's really weird. So check that it's not only your shadow time that has been changed, but possibly the location or sunrise and sunset times.

Yea, the slider is incorrect until the date is updated. And I've also experienced that everything was completely off. It turned out that for some reason the timezone for the scene had changed to GMT+7 instead of GMT+1 as it should be.

As you said yourself, very odd that there hasn't been more complaints about this. Is espesialy annoying for light study models.

On a sidenote, I just tried the latest V-Ray servicepack RC and changes done to the scene in SU now automatically reflect what V-Ray will render. No more need to update the V-Ray sky every time manually. 😍

Yeah, except that the VRay service release messes up the UV mapping scale of my existing SU files- I've had to revert to the previous version. 😒

+1 for this bug, I have a couple of models with about 60 trees in them and its a real pain having to change the date.....wait for shadows.....change date back.....wait for shadows for each scene, each time I need an image.

Did you try with the latest? It's not on the website, but I got an email from them with a download link asking for people to try a build they'd prepared.

Same problem here, and a big one for a long time.

All light settings shift to a dark timezone. When country, place or north angle is changed forward and back again it seems oke,.. but comes back evry time when saved and opened.

Compared the problem with collegues and found that it first happend when we switched from xp to a vista pc.
That theory didnt hold very long. model complexity is not the issue, even the smallest model gets it.
Weird enough, non of us ever experienced the problem at home on a single pc, xp or vista. so we blamed the network and pushed the question on.

hopefully it is really fixed with the release of SU7
