@malaise said: Do you use scientific features to model ? ( bones size, footprint...) I may get to the point one day where I can create "scientifically accurate" models of creatures, but for now I'm still working out the nuances of using SubSmooth. The models in this thread are inspired by 2D illustrations. As far as the process involved in creating a model from a flat drawing, it's fairly straightforward. The obvious one in this model is to create a flat outline on the 2D image of the Tylosaur, extrude it, sculpt the resulting blocky shape until it looks like the proxy shown, then run SubSmooth on it. SubSmooth is where the magic happens (thanks again, Whaat!). When the proxy has been smoothed, then I fuss with details until I come to a reasonable stopping point. Another view of the smoothed and detailed model: [image: 18m0_SUTylosaur2.jpg] And thank you all for the kind remarks...

I believe this is simply some noise, that occurs, when the rendering time was not long enough. give it more time and these effects will vanish...

Not at all Solo! Alienscapes are intriguing and fascinating! The only thing is that the often count so much on the atmosphere you give them, so i really think the winning program for this aim is vue!! Kepp posting, please!

bobu, Vue standard (released version) only has the replicate function that can scatter objects of the same size, however the instancing brushes vary the sizes. There are a few Python scripts for instancing identical sizes with variations on twist, rotation etc. I have had no need for such a python as I need the randomized sizes for my ecosytem brushes however if I come across those scripts I wil send you the link (or if Chipp Walters sees this he may have such a script in his arsenal) Scatter method: [image: instanceph4.jpg]

thanks mark. yeah sometimes that rubbish fight attention with the main focue, nevertheless, i think ill just put it that way, perhaps just personal prefernce. i think one of the power to quickly good realistic model is really modelling from photo and projecting the image with it. the only downside is when you see the projecting image on the side. but if you have another texture of the side it doesnt matter then. if you will view the eyecandy of silvershadow, most of the model was done on this same. Just look how he carefully traced the coble stones, shich he said he took him some hours of doing it.

@greyhead said: The level indicators aren't lying flat on the surface of the mixer - see the picture below. You can rotate the panel back into place. It's more difficult working on a sloping surface. I think that - for building - I would make the main surface horizontal; then rotate it to the right angle when all the components were complete. That way most of your lines will be in the XYZ axes. I'd also make much more use of components, as well as making each mixer module a component, you can make each knob a component - then the knob geometry is only stored once - instead of the 400 you have now. Bob If you make the whole as a group, you can the edit it and re-orient your axis to match, regardless of the rest of the model. You can also change the axis at any time and reset it to it original when you're done. Ciao Mike RL

hi, yep i did, it reads fine on A4 but i see wehat u mean about the monitor reading..... theres some explaination that i have added in the description on the site but i didnt want to clog the page full of text when its supposed to be a basic concept. I don't expect it to do particularly well, the reason why its so sketchy is because i found it hard to fit in around work but will give the second brief a proper go, but im kinda content with making a nice looking image for now apologies for the lack of clarity etc...

@pugz1983 said: Thanx for the constructive feedback. I put in some pointlights, but i think ik can get the ceiling lighter with self luminance in Kerkythea. Why don't you just change the color used in the Diffuse channel..?? I wouldn't recommend that you make it self luminant... @pugz1983 said: Any hints on how to soften the shadows? Use a higher render preset... Or go to the Render > Setup and change the Soft Shadow value to High... [image: crjk_Render-settings.jpg]
