I too began to study Modo last year for the similar purposes, but have stopped in the absence of the translator, I wait till now... Developers have made the good import-export translator for Rhino, can try through it? From it like easier to send in SU?

@chrisglasier said: But if they are imported some other way, is there some nifty way to refer to them? I guess there has to be an observer which checks if an instance of a component is added. @chrisglasier said: I don't know much about observers. I guess they can "see" changes in xyz's, rotation and so on but can they also log logical relationships to other components. (design criteria type thing). An observer will tell you that an object has been moved (transformed), but that is all. The AI has to be coded to react on such an event. It is the hardest thing, I think. Tomasz

Oh, the atmosphere thingy is good. A job well done. Thing with Maxwell is that it's buggy, too buggy for it's price. And bugs don't exactly get squashed swiftly, either. If I had known this beforehand, I may have gone with Fry. That's not to say Maxwell is bad, though. When it delivers, it delivers quality. But those bugs ... And the Studio ... I dare anyone to spend a day 'planting' high poly trees (while using cautious settings to not strain the app!) and count the amount of crashes they get. I once had over 60. Thing is, of course, that the ability to populate a scene with trees and what not is, at least partially, wherein Maxwell's appeal to us 'poly limited' folks lies ...

You could try this. The diffuse image was taken from this site : http://www.kavewall.com/fire-smoke/index.htm I just cropped the image and made a clip map out of it. Hope this helps. Material file. [image: TLWp_flame.jpg]

Yes, it's unfortunate, but it does make sense. The free version of SketchUp is so powerful that there needs to be some way to distinguish the pro version from the free version or nobody would drop 500 clams for the pro version. For a more in-depth look at the difference between the free version and the pro versions of SketchUp, see the link below: http://www.suwiki.org/suwiki/index.php?title=The_Differences_Between_SketchUp_Pro_and_Google_SketchUp -abe.

That's a neat little program. Is there anywhere to freely host a hypercosm model to be viewed by the public? I would love to be able to rotate through some of the great models that people on here have made. Hell, I think there is a whole city being modeled right now by someone in the gallery, and screen grabs just don't do it justice.

You can edit this material in Kerky, first go to advanced settings, direct light estimators>refraction enhanched>turn on pseudo transulcencies. Then edit the refraction of your material, hope this helps, you should check out the kerky material editor guide. Mike [image: 3GeC_Ktest.JPG]

Make sure that when you export the scene you check the box where it says: Export photomatched. Then it should work. However, if you have a landscape scene with smooth suraces that are photomatched, then these surfaces will be sharp, since kerkythea exports each triangle from a photomatch as a different object, in this case.

@eduardonl said: Yes, you can close this one. Thanks. Turned out to be a video card driver issue... I think. I installed ASUS drivers for my ATI card instead of using shitty ATI Cataclyst drivers. Problem solved Great to see you found a fix Ward, now can you please explain to an old man who is definitely not computer savy what is involved in installing a new driver as I have exactly the same problem as you had. I had no problem with SU textures but whenever I tried to use a .jpeg as a texture I got the same message in KT, it was very frustrating and I've been scratching my head for months about what the hell I was doing wrong. Until now I have seen nothing that explained it. Thank you for providing a bit of light on the subject. Now if you could just take me by the hand and lead me through the 'fix it process' I'll be a very happy chappy. Cheers from the deep south where summer is just around the corner.

Dear Igm, Thanks for the detailed reply. I checked my CAD package and it doesn't have an .stl import option anyway, so my question has turned out to be somewhat academic. Kind regards, Bob
