    Hello,

I'm using the free Version of Google SketchUp. So now i downloaded the demoversion of Maxwell Render 1.7.1 32 Bit and the right Plugin for SketchUp. The Maxwell Toolbar is visible so I tried a german Tutorial. Everything worked until I should export the file. And there is the problem:
I can only export into .kmz, the Google Earth format. No .msx, like the Tutorial said. 😞
I already searched in other forums and found someone with the same problem, but he didn't get any help.

    Thanks for help

      Hi Vercors,

I am not a Maxwell user myself but what I can tell is that the pro version of SU cannot export to msx format either. Are you sure there is no export option via the toolbar itself (or somewhere in the Plugins menu)?

Some other exporters (like the one for Kerkythea, another renderer) work this way to export to their native formats.

In the Tool bar are only these Icons:

        "set maxwell Camera Parameters"
        "set maxwell Environment Parameters"
        "set maxwell Object Parameters"
        "set maxwell HDRI Parameters"
        "Enable/Disable maxwell Material Panel"

The Exporter is named "MaxwellExport 2.1 b"

            Thanks Regis,

This was exactly the piece of info I wasn't aware of. Good to know - although obviously not good news to Vrecors.

              So, here: http://www.3d-software.ch/fileadmin/pdf/SketchUp_Maxwell_Tutorial/tutorial_sketchUp_maxwellrender.pdf

They say "With our Demoversions of SketchUp and MaxwellRender and this tutorial..." it should work.

Yes it should work with SU pro demo version but not with google sketchup free.
The plugin toolbar appears in the free version but I think he's disabled, it doesn't export nothing.
I've tried it last year and now I'm with Kerkythea, Indigo works fine too with google sketchup free.

                Regards

First of all, thank you for the help, but before I download it, 2 questions:

Is it possible to transfer a Model from the free Google SketchUp to the SketchUp Pro demo?
And can the Demo be used endless or just a certain time?

Yes, the demo read a file made with the free.

Only 8 hours of use, when you close the demo, the counter stop.
When you've used it 8 hours, it becomes a free version with no way to use maxwell render plugin exporter anymore.
Really, I don't understand why Maxwell doesn't let the plugin run with the free version.
                    Good luck with Maxwell render.

                    Regards

                      Seems to work.

Thank you for the help everyone.
I think I'll keep modelling in the free SketchUp version and use the demo just for exporting.

I think it is bad marketing not supporting the free version with their plugins 😑 Fryrender appears to be the same.

Probably the plugins have use of SU pro exporters as well πŸ˜„

Well theres a cheaper alternative for importing skp and exporting (At least) 3ds.

                          http://www.3dpaintbrush.com/learnmore/default.aspx

I consider buying it just to be able to export 3ds with ease.
Havent tried it long enough to see if its consistent though.
It imports skp files. πŸ˜‰ 99 euro.

Unfortunately that won't work. You cannot run SU Free and Pro at the same time. What now you installed has probably overridden your free app OR if you installed it to a different place, while modeling in the "free" version will also eat up your 8 hours.

What you can/could do however is to install SU 6 Pro, work in SU 7 (now trial - later free eval), svae back in SU 6 format and use the SU 6 Pro version only for exporting.

So, I also own a laptop because of my job.
I will install MaxwellRender and SketchUp Pro Demo on the laptop or the compter, don't know for sure. I can continue modelling with the free SketchUp, transfer the file to the other computer, then export it and transfer it back, because I already have Maxwell on one computer. Then I can continue working. πŸ˜‰

I once read a post on this forum that points to a plugin that fools SU into believing that SU free is SU pro in a limited range of situations. If however this is a Boo Hoo, please forget I mentioned it.
