thanks to both of you for this... i had the component thing kind of figured out but i was trying to do too much at once... i can see now that you have to make each piece a component. Dave i am very interested in the cutting list and would love to know how to get that info Ken @dave r said: Hi Ken, I agree 100% with Jeff. For something like this you should draw each part that you would make in wood as a separate component. This will give you the ability to make modifications as needed. You'll also have the ability to create a cutting list if you want it. That may not be all that useful if you are only approximating the construction but it is possible to do, anyway.

Did you try exactly with the same model? What video card do you have? What happens if you disable hardware acceleration under Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings (and are the two versions have the same settings there)? Oh, and welcome to SCF!

There is no post awaiting in the moderation queue. Neil, in that post about the Bezier spline plugin, I showed two ways of URL for SCF: http://forums.sketchucation.com/ and http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/ Please, do not use the latter one as it gives glitches. If you still cannot use the forums, find the email me link in my signature and I will try to help...

The "use model extents" checkbox on the Print dialog seems to have glitches. With small models (that fit on a page at 1:1 scale) it doesn't work at all. The most reliable way to print is to uncheck it, and to zoom in close so that what you see on screen matches what you want to print. Anssi

Also, if you draw one square for a grid, you can multiply it with a linear array in a couple of clicks. http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=94867

Hi folks. A possible workaround to keep the resolution at its maximum (not loose anything from the original picture) would be to use some image editor to cut the original image in chunks of 1024 x 1024 (or 2048 x 2048 if possible). After that, you can import all the chunk one by one in SketchUp and reassemble the picture. Just ideas.

Hi folks. Try doing a right click on any axis. If the "Reset" choice is greyed out, your axes are OK. Otherwise, choose Reset. This shall help in making sure that the model is indeed, correctly oriented. I have seen a few model lying on their side or even with the blue axis pointing down. Just ideas.

@dave r said: Is there any chance you could upload the SKP file with the imported DXF? I gave up on the idea of directly projecting the DXF lines, and instead used the Circle tool to match the curves. Even the SU curves were difficult to work with. After I clipped off the part of an ellipse I wanted, I found that sometimes the Selection tool finds individual edges, and other times it finds the whole curve. What's up with that? Anyway I'm past the imported curve hurdle, but now I'm having difficulty skinning the curves. The SU drawing file is linked in the Curviloft post dated 12/15/10. The original imported lines are on the None layer.

Hi folks. You can also use the Move Tool after doing a carefull selection of the stile inside the component definition. Moving the selection will then automatically stretch all edges connected to it. However, if the window component is composed of subcomponents, this can become a bit tedious. Just ideas.

Hi Ariane, The only face style that allows complete "shadelessness" is hidden line mode but that comes without textures. So with a textured model, you will always end up with some kind of shading on the faces.
