      So... the AVI animations will not do. I'm just now starting to make animations and plan on using them regularly. I have seen many really good looking animations on the old Youtube like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn0tvNdc1gM . I need to get there from here. I'm fine with the models but need a jump start for animations. Also I'm about to start with rendering programs so if there is an animation solution in say kerkythea or poidum or something like that it could work for me. I'm not on an unlimited budget but do have a bit to invest,(both money and time) to make this happen. Most of my work is site design / Landscape Architecture type of stuff.

        I am a newbee too, but fighting with more or less the same issues. I had some decent results by exporting to Kerkythea with scenes already arranged in SU for camera positions, creating a walkthrough in Kerkythea (there's a good tutorial for that). Kerkythea saves a sequence of Jpegs from the walkthrough, that can be assembled with a free software called Virtualdub to produce an .avi or other video formats. Then you have to assemble the whole thing in a larger film. I use Nero Vision 10 for that (some 80$ to buy) , but I am still jumbling with commands and options ... 😒

          Well, to get a higher quality loooking animation, the trick many people use is to export the animation as a series of .jpg's or .png's and export them about 2x as large as you want the final movie. Then reduce them using photoshop or something similar, and use combine them into a movie (I use QuickTime Pro for that). That produces a much nicer looking movie, with clean line work.

          For smoothing transitions between scenes, Dale has a plugin called smoothstep animation I think? It helps smooth out the speed of the camera between scenes. I've never used, it but I have used a similar one and it works pretty good.

          Then for the transitioning between the different rendering styles - lineowrk, white only, fully detailed with materials, etc, I am not sure how they did that, but a competent movie post processing software would be able to do that - I don't have a recommendation. I wish I knew more about it.

          Anyhow, hopefully that's a good start.

            Well, I am not saying that the below video is one of the greatest ever exported from SU but I used much or the tricks and methods Chris described above. Animation "pieces" were exported separately as images sequences at 2x size then resized. Later I assembled the video using these pieces and still images to create the transition effects between the different phases.

            So this is only for demonstrating that with some post-processing as well as video editing, you can add much to an otherwise rather "flat" animation export.

              Thanks to all who have posted here so far. With the holiday fast approaching I'm a bit tight on time but have been reading your posts. I have more to say/ask on the subject but may not have time for a thoughtful post until after dec 25th. In the mean time I'm looking at sony vegas movie studio hd platinum 10 production suite for my post SU work. Also looking into thea render. any thoughts.
