I converted a pdf floorplan to jpg to import it for tracing (I also converted it to tiff with the same result) and when I bring the jpg into sketchup I lose a significant amount of resolution vs. viewing the jpg in the windows picture viewer. This becomes most evident when looking at the dimensions on the images. They are clearly legible in the picture viewer, and totally unreadable in sketchup.

Any ideas on how I can improve the resolution of the imported image?

SketchUp, by default, can only display image resolution up to 1024 pixels. Since SU 7 (7.1 I believe), there is a setting to "use maximum texture size" under Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings. This will allow you to display resolution up to 2048 pixels provided your video card/driver can cope with it. Give it a chance but if you experience any weird issues, revert back instead.

Thanks. That worked, and I do have the hardware to support it.

If I have an image like this in my model and someone with a lesser computer tries to open it, what will happen?

He will only see the lower resolution version (Preferences are not saved with the model but with the software. All that is under Window > Model info will only save with the model).

              Hi folks.

A possible workaround to keep the resolution at its maximum (not loose anything from the original picture) would be to use some image editor to cut the original image in chunks of 1024 x 1024 (or 2048 x 2048 if possible).

After that, you can import all the chunk one by one in SketchUp and reassemble the picture.

              Just ideas.
