I agree there's some basics that some people just seem to understand. Besides the proxy results, there's just creating meshes from scratch, or simply how to draw the proxy shapes. I think if you watch car model videos, or buy one of the SCF books on car modeling (or a chair with organic shapes), you'll see how people approach some of this. I'm looking at learning more of the same things.

After some time, I'm back with the same problem. I was trying cca 60x and then came here... and now I tried the same as in the images and... does not work. Why? Maybe you could just add one more detail to the image (copy and CLICK). So when I tried just "move the copy and position and then type" or "copy, move and type and then click", it does not work. So now I understand that I must "move the copy, position, CLICK, and then type..." BTW: Why did you decolored the icons of edit box? This looks so ugly and bad for orientation.

You can update your profile fields here: http://sketchucation.com/forums/ucp.php Sorry for the avatar though. I don't know why but a few avatars did not make it through. As for auto-login: you also need to make sure your browser accepts cookies for sketchucation and they are not deleted when you close the browser. To make it "safe", you could also try to delete older sketchucation cookies first then log in as per above (it will set new cookies) and hope that it stays like that.

Sounded like a nice workaround, but uploaded content can be downloaded as DAE only in paid accounts.

Here is an example using Vertex Tools. Takes a few minutes. You probably already have something, but I think this would be faster than a tree plugin. I didn't texture it properly but you can have these if interested. I made cylinders with multiple mid circles. Lined them up and used VT gizmo (gently) all at once on multiple soft selections. VT cost but you won't regret it, and you also have a chance to support ruby development. [image: aMFx_Palings.png] palings.skp

I wasn't as close as I though I was, but ¾” isn't that bad either. I basically have 29 slat pairs I need to adjust the spacing to make is work. So if you look at the inside of the door, you'll see the 6 studs don't line up on the slat so the are in the middle of the overlap joint. The 1st couple of attempts at laying out the holes didn't work either. What I'm trying to do is set up a component with all the holes (extra long) and a bottom marker. The bottom marker will line up with the bottom corner of the slat and the holes in the center of the slat. When I get the comp lined up with the slat, I'll open it and explode it, cut the whole comp. Edit the slat and then paste the comp in place and use intersect to make the holes. That a lot of work per slat I know, but until I can figure out an easier way. That's my only option I feel that will work.

thanks for the reply Dave. yeah, small wedges were what I was thinking, tried it with a 6000mm radius and a wedge 2 degrees wide, and I just ended up with what looks like a psychedelic circular rug hhhmmm, bit of a bummer that. I'm not great at photoshop, but i'll have to give it a shot.

@tig said: Have you tried drawing the edges of the road as lines/curves in 3d and using any of the tools I suggested? The native Sandbox from Contours tool might 'skin' a set of edges for you. You cannot simple draw two straight pieces of road that crash into each other and expect a magic tool to sort out the 'transitions' needed. Okay now I see why you did not understand why I could not get jist of it. The sentance: "Have you tried drawing the edges of the road as lines or curves in 3D and using any of the tools I suggested?" shows that I did not clearly specifiy that in my previous post. To think, all of the things you had told me to do with the sandbox tools, I was doing but did not mention that, but instead I was using the sandbox tools by picking one road at a time instead of using the whole map. Therefore when I stamped an intersected road on top of a previous stampped area, it would not come out as a smooth transition between the 2 intersections. Sadly, that it took this many post, when technically I should of just asked how could I make my flat road map follow the contour of my terrain. I will try this out and get back to you if I have anymore problems, and thanks agian.

I've been working on a number of small parts and that trick has made a huge differences in getting clean results. What I've done is draw the set up for making the part, make it a component, then copy it. Scale it up, finish building the part in the larger version, save the file, and then delete the larger component. It's worked every time so far.

@dave r said: So it isn't installed correctly in the Plugins folder. No wonder it doesn't show up. You should have the SU2KT folder as well as SU2KT.rb and probably a related TXT file. The SU2KT folder should have a number of PNG files, a couple of SKP files and an XML file. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! Apparently I've dropped the .rb and .txt file while transferring the stuff from the old laptop. This just saved more than my day!

@grapefruitsketch said: @dave r said: It won't download? Or you can't run it? Best bet is to log into the Kerkythea forum and ask your question there. I imagine a search of the forum there will turn up an answer to your question before you even ask it. Won't download. I've also posted there, anywhere I could get help would be much appreciated. That forum doesn't seem too active, last post in FAQ-section from June... Kerkythea2008.dmg seems to download just fine. Maybe you need to clean the web-browser cache. Even Kerkythea is some years old, it is still pretty usable free renderer. Forum has still regular visitor.. and forum admins. But like usual we have our own lives too, so don't expect a 24/7 responses.

Pilou, I followed your example about exploding the components to first be positioned far enough out of view of the final drawing area. Great idea! I managed to complete my animation exactly the way I wanted to using your suggestions. The .avi file appears differently than the .skp file after I export the animation. How can I fix this? Since this is a new topic, I will post it as a new one. Thank you. David http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSCPA5d52Cc&feature=youtu.be Shaker-style, 2-step stool V6.skp

I have something working! I get large previews for SketchUp files. [image: n3xX_large_skp_previews.png] If someone is interested or knows how to get it work for Windows, I can share the code (it is not much). I looked into IThumbnailProvider interface, but that's too complicated for me and it probably requires a C extension or something.
