@eric80 said: HI so yes the regular text works, in fact it is right side up but the 3D text is upside down!!! how's that happen? hey eric, there are a number of possibilities of what's going on but it's hard to guide you in the proper direction without knowing the exact orientation of your model and text. you can attach a .skp here which other members can view and help sort out your issues much more quickly.. when you're replying to a post, look beneath the reply window and you'll see an 'upload attachment' tab.. use that so we can see the problem without the need for these pesky words

Just a suggestion, instead of doing the "rotate it many times around that point" manual way. Try D,burs Align plugin:DBUR_Align_v1.0.1_5.rbz it's a lot faster. Find at extension warehouse here: http://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/align I used it to make this sample: [image: dburalignsample.jpg] Just had to right click on the bolt plate and select Align component/group and align the red &green axis on the part you want the bolts on and it would copy and rotate it into place.

HI, you were correct in that I had to complete my lines. I was able to fix it up without redrawing. thanks @dave r said: Eric, in a nutshell, making a component (or group) of the walls is akin to wrapping them up in Saran wrap. You can see them but the "wrapper" protects them from being modified and protects other geometry from being affected by that geometry inside the wrapper. If you do need to make changes to the contents of the component/group, you open it for editing and do your thing. Think adding a slice of cheese to a sandwich wrapped in the cling wrap. It may actually be better to start over in this case. You have some parallel nearly coincident lines in a few places. Shoot for a single face for all connected walls. No lines crossing from one side of the wall to the other. If you plan to make the walls 3D at some point, this will make it a lot easier. It'll go faster next time, too.

I doubt you over stepped SketchUp's abilities but possible those of your computer. It might be that you are running a bit before you've really learned to walk. There are good strategies to deal with the sort of stuff you are doing and ways to make it less work than it probably is for you right now. Good housekeeping methods are a prime thing here. You mentioned that you are planning to do some renders. While you are cleaning up your models, make sure you don't have any exposed back faces. Some rendering applications won't render them even if they have materials applied to them. If that's the situation in your model, you might find it very frustrating so cleaning up your models in advance will help reduce that, too. It sounds like you are looking at this as a learning experience so that's a good thing. Keep plugging.

I have what I want now in the third image. Before you pointed me in the direction of the foreground photo checkbox, I couldn't find a way to get my modification displayed over the top of the photo. Now I can. Thanks for your help. Julian

Because the back and front of the chair is a curved surface, and is made from 6 separate faces (seat consists of two faces), you will need to map the texture across them. This should help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHsRRLCAOm8 Another thing I noticed with this model is that if you go to edit-->unhide-->all a centre line up the middle of the back of the chair appears. This is what is making it so the two halves select separately. If you right click on this centre line and soften it (or delete it) then turn off the hidden geometry you can then select the back of the chair as a single face which will assist in mapping the texture over it in one go. Hope this helps.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Could you post a screen shot or better a model?

I actually used Tig's Extrude tools, but Curviloft would certainly do it.

1001bittools pro has a face tool that might do it... otherwise you might try making the tile the right size and then using fredo scale to twist and squish it into the right shape...

Just a head's up if you decide to go forward with using SketchyPhysics...it's on the Quarantine list because it interferes and modifies some things about SketchUp. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=47371&p=456723&hilit=quarantine#p456723 You can of course still install and use it, just know that you might get some funky behavior and busted tools/behavior. I didn't know this when I first used it, and it gave me a lot of headaches.

@pbacot said: Will be interesting to see how this goes or if SU can handle all those seats. Haha, we all build models holding thousands and thousands of seats I built a fairly detailed stadium with over 100k seats a while ago (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=ab540be05531814078c5a8ac7702b7f3), and liverpudlian built a similar sized model for Argentina also. My graphics card is a NVIDIA Geforce 6150SE nForce 430. You lot probably know that is hardly the best hard drive Anyway, I too would like to find a solution, although my current method dosent take too long. Putting seats in the corners is all part of building stadiums but if there was a quick cheat way I would use it Me, liverpudlian and a load of others post our pictures here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=330977&page=425

Good. Thank you very much. Somehow I managed not to find this model in the warehouse myself.

Have you learnt about groups and components yet? By grouping geometry you stop it sticking to loose geometry. therefore allowing you to move it around freely as an object. A chair for example that isn't part of the floor it sits on. A component is a group that is easily repeatable. So your chair may have four legs that are made from one component, change one leg and you change all four, and they don't stick to other geometry. So to answer your question, if you have a chair, select all of it and make it a component. Then in the edit menu select copy, then paste or paste in place. Paste will give you a chair on your cursor until you click to place it, and paste in place will paste it on top of the original, but it will be a separate thing that can be selected and moved. The move tool allows you to copy in one step. With your chair selected use the move tool and crtl to create and place a copy or an array.
