    • SketchOSM by PlaceMaker Released

Update 2018-05-14: SketchOSM is now available for free from the SketchUp Extension Warehouse!

SketchOSM is a plugin for SketchUp that lets you create 3D buildings parametrically for adding site context to your model.  Buildings created with SketchOSM can then be shared with the world by publishing directly to OpenStreetMap (OSM), an enormous database of freely accessible and editable geo-information used by millions.

      Features:

      • Compatible with SketchUp 2017+ Make or Pro (Windows Only)
      • Geo-location tool
      • Geo-locate your model and import a satellite image from DigitalGlobe as a reference for tracing buildings
      • Import OSM road centerlines and show existing OSM 3D Buildings for reference
      • Create Simple OSM 3D Buildings
      • Create Multi-Part Complex (Relation) Buildings
      • Parametric tools to edit new buildings
      • Height Tool
      • Roof shape (gable, hip, round, skillion, onion, dome, round, pyramid)
      • Roof Height
      • Building Color
      • Roof Color
      • Edit Building Outline
      • Minimum Building Height
      • Copy Attributes (tags) from one building to another

      Basic Usage:

      • Geo-locate your model to select the location you want to create buildings.  For best imagery resolution, zoom in to the max level before importing.
      • Use SketchUp built-in tools to trace faces over top of building outlines
      • Open the SketchOSM Dialog (login to OSM first)
      • Select a building outline face and click the ‘Create Buildings’ button
      • Select the new building ‘group’ and adjust the building attributes using settings in the dialog
      • Upload buildings to OSM if desired using the upload button in the dialog.

      Hi,

I am drawing profiles over geometry that is not aligned to the default world axes. The geometry is contained within its own group, and its own axis orientation. in my case, i am trying to extrude mullions on a vertical plane to create a storefront. the plane is not aligned to the default world axis. when i try to create profiles along the vertical lines on this plane, the profile remains aligned to the world axis. the local axes of the group is ignored. any way to work around this?

      Hello penumbra,
Thanks for your post. We are aware of this issue. Unfortunately, there is no current workaround other than to use the profile rotation attribute to align the profile as desired.

How to apply the tool to an object that shows both front and back sides, such as a folded sheet

      Hi maurorog,

I don't think it is possible to apply the UV mapping to the back side of the face in SketchUV, unless someone knows a clever trick.

I think I found a bug which causes Sketchup to crash. I seem to have narrowed it down to double-cut, and specific dynamic components. It happened to me on 3 different PCs with windows 10 and Sketchup 2017.

      To recreate the crash:

      1. pull into the model attached dynamic component. It's a table from Sketchup's Dynamic Components Training collection.
      1. right click > save as > save it to the desktop
      2. Drag and drop the newly saved component into the same sketchup model where the original is in.
      3. scale the new component > Crash!

Best if more people check to be sure it's this plugin and not something else...

Thank you very much for the report! We will check it out

I also have Artisan and it updated without the message, so I've got Artisan 1.3.0
But the update of PB2 certainly won't work for me... 😕

      Hello everyone,

The Extension Manager can only be used to updated PB2 if you have purchased PB2 from the Extension Warehouse. Otherwise, you can always download the latest version of PB2 from here:

      http://profilebuilder4sketchup.com/download-profile-builder/

Note: Version 2.1.7 (just released) just contains a few minor bug-fixes.

      hey there,

how can one change the behaviour of a profile to be extruded smooth or not?
thanks for a hint here 😄

Sorry, this is not possible. Of course you can use the SketchUp soften edges tool to adjust the smoothness after doing the extrusion.

Can you describe what your use-case is for this feature?

Whaat is it possible to add 'triangulate all' existing profiles? or at least 'triangulate on creation' option? Zillions of unique materials is a HUGEheadache when exporting to Max.
      P.S. Please check possibility of

      1. multiple unconnected curves as single path
      2. faster path (ideally context ignoring single click )finding. Now it's too much clicking.

SketchUV has a triangulate feature (using right-click context menu) that should do the trick.

      Thanks for your input, halroach.

Yes, this is a known issue. We hope to be able to improve it in the future. The recommended workflow is to use the Double-cut explode locked groups option (right-click menu) after you have finalized the position of your door. Then, you can easily erase the un-wanted faces at the base of the door.

It's simple and it works. That's all there is to it.

It can also operate on nested solids

The axis of your door needs to be set correctly. You also need to make sure your component has a closed loop of edges on the same plane as the x-y plane of your component. Check out this tutorial on creating cutting components.

P.S. Any plans for PB refreshing?

Sorry, the tool is not designed for curved surfaces. Basically, the tool extends the existing functionality of SketchUp's cutting components. Since SketchUp's cutting components don't work on curved surfaces, DC won't work either.

      A question.
If I use this plugin in a model and someone that doesn't have this opens the model and moves a window. What happens?

The window will move but the hole created from Double-Cut will not move unless you 'unlock' it with the Right-click context menu and move it manually with the SU move tool.

Will this work on cavity walls (multi layered walls) and complete the returns / reveals?

Sorry, it just works inside the 'active' wall group. If the wall is multi-layered and each layer is a separate group, it won't work for that.

Hi, sketchup says that this plugin is unidentified (doesn't have digital signature) and therefore may be risky to use. I don't have this issue with other plugins.

Thanks for the note - the current version on the EW might not have a signature. I'll have to fix that.
