Great test model! I'm more partial to coke, though.

Ok. done.
Yet I'd like to have an option to randomize UV tiling without having to group all the profiles, explode them and use Julia's UV depatternize script...It took me a while to get the positioning of each profile right.
it has to be done manually.
I'd have liked to have the possibility to place the profiles along a predefined shape (spline) with the option of aligning the profile along the shape, and parametric interdistance. It would be cool to have the possibility of interrupting the profiles (in the case of this bench, I'll have to cut the profiles with su4you's incredible slice to create some realistic lengths (there is no manufacturer who can make wooden profile in that shape and that length)
Nice work! Thanks for the suggestions!

When I open library folder, only last row of profiles can be selected, no matter how long is the table of thumbnails-only last row. Anybody to tell me how to resolve this ?
Trial version installed on 64 bit Windows8.1, same on Windows 10-64 bit.
Hi,
That is a strange report. Can you please open the Ruby Console Window (Window->Ruby Console) and then try to select the profile thumbnails in the upper rows. Then, let me know if you see any error messages.
Also, could you please ZIP your library folder and send to me for testing? My email address can be found here (see Customer Support):

Thanks!

I know this is an old one but I use this plugin a lot! It is so simple to use and does not have the face me component artifacting issue that occurs with the standard Google/Trimble animation export. I flagged this many years ago if you track back through this post, but Trimble are obviously not interested in fixing it. As Duanekemp mentioned, there are so few simple but decent walkthrough plugins available and I am worried that one day this one will stop being compatible with a new version of SU.
I don't know if Dale (Whaat) is still around but one thing I noticed and would love to have fixed is the little jump you get when transitioning from one view to the next. You can see it my video here: https://youtu.be/RyRShpSTtLg
Also while generating images, it tends to put a stack of still frames on the end of the animation. I'm no coder but these items seem fairly minor and surely not too hard to fix.
I'd go so far as to say that I would be prepared to pay money[/highlight:2l6232yt] (and I am sure others would too) to have some of these minor things fixed.
Dale, if you are out there, we'd love to hear from you!
Hi Grice,
Nice to see that this little plugin is being used professionally. I wrote it a long time ago mostly as a little experiment and haven't touched it since. I will consider doing an update sometime this year though, especially if you feel there is still some demand for this plugin.

Hi Whaat
My assemblies are getting complicated and I wonder if there is any way to automatically combine them?
This would make it much easier to get amazing results since they could be created in a modular fashion and debugged and re-used more easily.
If this cannot be done, can you think of any way to get a report on the assembly that would contain a listing of components and the dialog attributes such as elevation etc.?
Thanks again for all the fun.
Elliot
Sorry, I am not understanding what you mean by 'combine them'. can you elaborate?
Tip: You can use the Extend tool to split an existing profile member if you tap the CTRL key when using it. Also, you can use this tool to extrude any face into a Profile Member.
The Extend tool is so simple, but it might just be my favorite tool in PB2.

plus it retains the material and UV info (havenโt fully tried this though). You will lose all materials in artisan once subdivided.
Just want to clarify a common misconception about Artisan. You CAN retain materials and UVs in Artisan, you just need to enable that feature in 'Settings'. It is not enabled by default because it results in a performance hit.
Greetings,
I was asked by a PB2 user to start a thread on Sketchucation for PB2 users to share tips and tricks with each other. I will also be posting tips here periodically. I look forward to learning about how PB2 is being used in the community!

I'm not sure in which topic it should be asked.. Luckily you're the author of both plugins (Profile Builder and Sketch UV.
I applied tube SketchUV's tube mapping to the curb generated with PB.
As you can see the vertical seams are distorted- they are not perpendicular to the 'U' path (I put the desired look above).
Could you advice how to get the desired result with the present tools?
And may be it's a good idea to have 'generate UV's' in the PB v.3?
Hi rv1974,
Before you create the object using PB2, select the desired textured material from the drop-down list in PB2. Then, you should get your desired result automatically. SketchUV applies a different UV mapping scheme than PB2.

Hi
I'm just getting started with this amazing and wonderful plugin. My problem is that when I save my assembly and then reuse it a new model, one of the components, #2 "Corner" in the original, is missing in the saved Assembly.
Here's the original Assembly dialog from the skp where I created it followed by the one that's loaded from the Assembly browser:
There are only 3 instead of 4 components in the second one.
Ideas?
Hello eselick,
Thank you for the report. Can you please do the following:
Thanks!

I'd love to be able to manually exchange a component somewhere and still be able to adjust the curve afterwards.
Interesting idea, Pixero! Would you be able to describe a use-case for this feature? Thanks

Hi Dale, Happy New Year!
A few queries re: building assemblies and where to use components or not.
See attached images which I've added questions to each. Cheers, look forward to hearing back ASAP.
Hi utiler,
Thanks for the images. I am very aware of the issues you are facing. There is currently no easy way to do what you want. The workaround is to make the fence using two assemblies, one for the posts and another for the fence boards. The one with the fence boards must be created by clicking the center of each post. I am not sure if this makes sense. I hope to make this much easier in a future update.

Hi Whaat
I'm wondering if you are aware of the problems that I and many others who are on Windows 10 are having when we try to download the Trial version of PB 2.A few seconds after the download dialog loads Sketchup crashes, usually with no error message or only a Windows, "this program has stopped working ..." message.
All of this is quite fully documented at the Sketchup forum:
http://forums.sketchup.com/t/extension-warehouse-download-attempt-crashes-su/18869/27Hopefully you can check it out and help get it fixed so that we can have a look at PB2.
Thanks
Elliot
Yes, thank you for the report. I am aware of the issue and the SketchUp EW team is working to help resolve this. I have made a change to the EW PB2 page. Please try again to see if the issue has been resolved.
Thanks!
Dale

Sorry Dale, I'm no developer, but what about the reporting features? I'd see extensions like Estimator taking huge benefit of integrating their estimator with PB2...
The reporting and estimating features of PB2 are currently being greatly expanded.
One idea is that other plugin authors could create entities that are compatible with Profile Builder and then PB2 can include these entities in various reports.
For example, if someone makes a plugin that automatically generates 2x6s, if they were to use the API, then these entities could be included in a PB2 report that does a take-off of all the 2x6s.
A very long time ago, someone suggested that I release an API for Profile Builder. Is there anyone who would be interested in this? It would probably not be too hard to put something together. There are a few advantages for plugin developers for using such an API:
Possible API methods:
Add a Profile Member (PM) to the model
Set/Get the profile of a PM
Set/Get the orientation / attributes of a PM (axis rotation, x offset, y offset, scale, layer, etc.)
Set/Get the path of a PM
Modify the length of a PM (extend)
Split a PM
Set/Get the material of a PM (with automated UV mapping)
Get the start or end face of a PM
Trim a PM to an arbitrary plane
Trim a PM to a solid object
Would this be of any benefit to the SU Extension development community?
Hi,
I think it is great that you are interested in using SketchUV for your modeling. However, I would recommend that you first master the native SketchUp Texture positioning tools and materials features. You can do a lot with just the SketchUp native tools. In particular, have you learned how to position a texture and then sample it using the eye-dropper to 'wrap' it around adjacent faces?

mistakes like this are appearing on the console
Error: #<NameError: uninitialized constant DM_SketchUV::DM_UVTool::Set>
I'm using Sketchup 2015. When you use version 1.0 works fine, but there are flaws in version 1.0.1
Thanks for the report - I'll look into it. Are you sure you have the latest version installed?

Hello, has anyone received these error messages ?
I drew a straight section of an few arbitrarily
profiles .... crown105, crown106.
(downloaded from the pb2 website)I experimented with extending and trimming to
a perpendicular profile/face, etc.any thoughts on cause ?
any ideas to remedy ?<!-- ia1 -->trim_errror.msg.PNG<!-- ia1 -->[/attachment:1bx1nwz4]
<!-- ia0 -->extend_errror.msg.PNG<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:1bx1nwz4]
In order to extend or trim a profile member, the end of the profile member must not have been modified. In other words, the ends need to look the same as they did right after the object was created. Re-building the member will re-create it so you can trim it again.

Whaat, could you add random move\scale\rotate parameters (per axis)for profile\assembly members?
Yes - that's fairly easy to do, but I would prefer not to add so many settings to the Assembler dialog for a feature that would be used fairly rarely by the average user (I assume). Besides, there are other plugins that can do this - it is an extra step by still much faster than doing it manually.
For example - are you familiar with this one?
