RE: Curviloft Thickness
Now that I understand just what your trying to do here's a way to get there. The steps you do are from left to right in the picture.
Draw your "sprocket". Make a hole in the center for the inside wall. Make it a group. Copy the sprocket up, I did it twice. Scale the sprockets to give the vase taper.
Use Curviloft - Loft by Spline and select the inside edges of the sprockets to get the inside of the vase. Do the same selecting the outside edge of the sprockets for the outside of the vase.
Use Joint Push Pull to give the bottom of the pot thickness.
Use Fredo Scale Box Twisting to twist the vase. Twisted the sample 20 degrees.
One tip , Work BIG, the model is 4' tall, then scale down. Colored vase in front is a more realistic 12" tall.

RE: Tambour Front Credenza
Thanks David. Your correct the doors operate like a roll top desk. Only difference is they slide horizontal, operation and construction is basically the same. Surprisingly enough on the original pieces the doors slid real easy. They were pretty high quality stuff, solid teak. Wish I had them now. Chuck.

Tambour Front Credenza
Knocked this out last night. In the style of several pieces my parents owned when I was growing up. Has a quiet elegance I think. Model was pretty quick to do. Rendered in Twilight, 08 Exterior setting. Let it run for 200 passes. About 23 minutes.

RE: Curviloft Thickness
What Dave said, have used joint push pull to get thickness to small boat hulls after creating the shell with curviloft. Works great.

RE: Tarpon
Dave, Thanks, I get the other stuff to do. Sometimes doesn't seem like there's enough hours does it ? Took the raw render into Gimp and ran the "Colorize" tool, played with the settings a little in there. Then tweaked Hue & Saturation levels a little. Chuck.

RE: Tarpon
Thanks Mike. Tarpon's a tropical saltwater fish. Pretty prehistoric, mouth like a concrete bucket, no teeth. Actually eats pretty small stuff considering how big they can get. Monsters can push over 6' and 200 pounds. chuck.

Tarpon
Knocked out a Tarpon model today.
First pic is the model straight out of SU
Second pic , set up a little scene. Quick render in Twilight and then got a little "arty" in Gimp.

RE: What do you make with Vertex Tools?
Took a couple of screen shots while making a tarpon today.
First shot is the tarpon body right from curviloft.
Second shot is after clean up with vertex tools. Doesn't take that long actually, mesh a lot more regular. Ready for fins and then texture.
Don't know if subD might do this kind of stuff. Bought it but haven't had time to experiment with it yet.

RE: What do you make with Vertex Tools?
Thomas, Be my guest. Hadn't occured to me to do that sort of thing with the model. I'll have to play with it some evening. chuck.

RE: What do you make with Vertex Tools?
Thomas, If I did it right this should take you to the topic where the bonefish model is.

Never thought to take screen shots while working.

RE: I need a drink ! ( added pic )
Thanks pbacot, I did download majid's ice textures just haven't had a chance yet to work with them. Hope to this week.

RE: What do you make with Vertex Tools?
Thomas, I posted a bonefish model in the gallery section if you want to check it out. I lean on your vertex tool a lot when doing fish and animal models. I generate my mesh with curviloft and then clean things up with vertex tools. It is a great help in getting a good result. Thanks for a great plug in. chuck.

RE: I need a drink ! ( added pic )
Thanks cotty, Agree with your comment about the spotlight. In retrospect should have pushed the exposure in post pro setting another click or two before saving also. All part of the learning process.

I need a drink ! ( added pic )
This job I'm on is sure going to drive me to drinking..... Really just been trying to broaden my modeling and rendering beyond what I've been doing on the job. Rendered with Twilight. Sorry somebody will have to bring the ice, I haven't got an ice cube modeled and textured yet. Think the result wasn't too bad, still a lot more to learn.
Added a new pic. Same scene, played around with the lights. Things are looking better I think. Still a lot more to learn. Experiments will continue !

RE: Not just for concrete !
thanks Bob. don't know about the clever part, more like happy accident.

Not just for concrete !
Not sure if this is the best place for this.... I've been Building up my library of "housewares" to use in renders and found a great use for Rich's rough concrete textures that are available in the store. They actually make a pretty good representation of the rough mottled glazes you see on art pottery. Set them up in Twilight to give a good shine and add some bump and viola, you've got a cool looking pot for in the foreground of an interior render.

RE: SketchUp Guide for Woodworkers: Advanced Techniques
Dave, any plans for your book to get printed on actual paper ?

RE: Push/pull double click wrong direction
know this post has been around awhile, thought I'd chime in that I see the same odd behavior at times. it does seem totally random and unpredictable. Example would be creating a frame and panel look to a wall, recessing panels 1/2" ,running a wall same axis ,double clicking away and viola it pulls a panel instead of pushing. Also seems to occasionally not erase a face when punching holes in walls. no predictability may go weeks without issues than problems pop up in a model . go figure. exit the tool and go back to push pull and everything o.k.?

RE: Bonefish
solo, I guess I can post the model for a fellow "exile in texas". texture job was the best I could do with thru paint. model was meant to replicate a fiberglass taxidermy mount. have fun with it. Only fooled around for 15-20 mins to get the image I posted. Going to try and play with it some more. Lets see what somebody who's REALLY good can do.
