I'm interested in a package that'll be suited for landscape. I some times get projects where there's allot of landscape, large terrain and vegetation. And that makes SU choke just thinking of it.

How about Flamingo or any of the other zoo animals?

RE: Alternative modelling programs
I just downloaded it. The interface looked very easy to get into. Very interesting modelling app.
Previously I've used Rhino. Think it was version 3, or 2, we used at uni. We used it mostly to create 3D working drawings of the models we made. (I did a modelmaking course)
Had a quick look at the Penguin render for it, but never really got into experimenting. Haven't tried v4. Is it much different from v3? -
RE: Matching a 2d image
Or you can use the export function and export in a larger resolution. This is a must if you plan to use it for large prints.

RE: Problem with materials
Also, the material preview isn't always that reliable to the actual result. Try to render and see if it works.
Note: in most cases you need to map the texture in SketchUp in order to get the size and orientation correct.

RE: Problem with materials
Go through all the layers of the material.
When you see a big M, click on it
If it's a bitmap material, click on the M in the Bitmap group,
a file dialog should now appear
select the appropriate bitmap file -

the problem is,,when i tried to load this material,, & try to preview. seems like,, there is no material inside,,
When you download V-Ray material you need to relink the bitmap textures.

RE: Componenets not rendering in VRAY
Odd. I have the opposite problem. Groups refuse to render, while components works fine.
The upcoming new Service Release fixes this. -
RE: Vista performance issue fixed.
Is that under certain hardware config that it's slow? Because I've not noticed anything on my AMD dual code system with Vista.

RE: About vray for su
- Right click the V-Ray light
- Select V-Ray for sketchup -> Edit Light
- In the Option group tick Invisible
If you wan't to see the V-Ray light when you render you have to turn of the default lights so they don't cast a shadow from your light.

RE: 2D Export to PDF causes crash
hmm... I was using shaded view when I tried the export...

RE: 2D Export to PDF causes crash
I experience the same thing. SU export fails. But PDF printer work.

RE: Export 2d limitations?
That was the culprit!
I always export large and resample down because I don't like the SU AA, but I'd never turned it off. -
Export 2d limitations?
I think I've seen some thread similar to what I'm about to ask, but I couldn't locate them.
Is there a limit to the size of the images when exporting as 2d? I'm trying to export large image. 3000px works fine, but 4000px fails.
I've got a Intel Core2 Duo with 2GB RAM.

RE: SketchUp .skm Materials
Yea, I followed the link to his site and got the materials from there.

Save and load camera
I got a model where I need to update an image I previously made. However, the camera in the scene has changed. I do have however an older file with the original camera position.
I had a look for a plugin that let you save and load camera
positions, but with no luck. I only found various exporters.Anyone got a link?

RE: Photomatch pre work
I've managed to match the photos close enough now. I took some extra time to model some extra surrounding buildings for reference and ensure their height was correct. That helped alot.
I don't use PhotoMatch to model buildings or extract textures from, just to get the correct perspective for the model so I can drop it into Photoshop and then work on it from there.

RE: Photomatch pre work
Thanks for the tips.
Unfortunately I have to work with less then ideal setup for Photo Match. I'm matching up a building into surrounding context so it's a large area, leaving any possible square angled objects/buildings very small. And some of the perspective required doesn't provide any 45 degree view points either. Doesn't help that it's an old city with basically no 90 degree angled corners.
While I can take new photos, the location is in fact right outside my office, the camera at disposal is just a small digital camera with no option to change lense. I hope to be able to get the office to get a better camera, alas it won't help me now. (Though any tips here are welcome.)
Some of the images I have seem to be have a very odd perspective. I'm wondering it's due to the zoom. Enhancing the warped effect?

RE: Photomatch pre work
But the manual also says:
@unknownuser said:
Warped images. Images which have been manually warped via an image processing program, or specialized camera are not supported. For example, some cameras used for architectural photographs adjust for vertical perspective distortion, by tilting the camera plane. The resulting photo is an image similar to our “Two Point Perspective” mode.
It recommends adjusting the image while at the same time saying it causes problems.
