Can it be done? In SU itself or with the help of an extension?
I've used to model in 3DSMax and there's a tool there that let you do this and it's such a great timesaver.

Very interesting. I was playing with the trial a little, but I felt that the 500x500 restriction didn't give me the chance to evaluate the details produced. This has certainly tempted me to buy the whole thing and really give it a go. I wasn't even aware that Podium could bumpmap. Completely missed that. Guess I need to have another look at the website and the docs.
I just signed up for the new forums. But I did not have to wait for any activation. I could immediately log in.
(EDIT: Just read the post on the second page of comments that activation was suspended. Ignore this post.)
Not everything can be made into multicore. Some task simply can't be split into multiple threads.
If there was only one improvement with SU7 I'd opt for higher polycount handling.
I don't see the need for renders in SU. If you need to render realistically there's other packages for this. If all these features suggested where implemented SU would become less of a sketching application.
I like the ideas of plugins though. Extending the app as you prefer. Like Firefox.
Ah, 3D printer. We had one of them at Uni. Was a pain in the rear end to get working properly. Kept blocking up.
Nice renders!
Which of the render engines did you feel fitted best for the job?
So SU uses the graphics card when it renders views? (print and 2D saves)
I thought I read somewhere, where the question was why saving a png didn't match what was on the screen (in terms of anti-aliasing), that SU used software rendering when saving 2D graphics. Maybe that was an older version?
Would such a "thingy" sell well on eBay? I think I found some in the loft.
When setting the transparency to Nicer it tends to get the z-order of transparent objects wrong. The objects in the back overlaps objects in the front.
I thought it was an issue with the graphics card on the computer I'm on. Because it's using an older IBM nVidia driver, and I can't use nVidia's drivers; they refuse to install. But when I export the scene as 2D the overlapping transparency also occur. And I was under the impression that when you export SU uses it's own software render?
Faster or Medium setting seem to work fine however.
I got the Styles tool window open.
I select a style, export as 2D.
Then I try to select a new style. It looks like it's displaying the styles currently in the Model, but when I click nothing happens. There's also no tooltip when I hover over the styles. I have to use the dropdown-box and select In Model again before I can interact with the styles.
