RE: SketchUp - Taking time out to think?

So what do you think about the SCF?
It's become a part of my online life, part of my morning ritual between checking mail and catching up on news. A source of information second to none, a place to exhibit my work amongst professionals that will give honest opinions.
My life would be poorer without this interaction really.
Thank you for giving me another home.

RE: Just in time for Thanksgiving.

Amazing modelling....I was about to say awesome render until I read your comment where you mention it to be a photo.
Are you going to render it? I would love to have a shot if possible to try match the photo.
fantastic work.

RE: WACOM Cintiq 12WX
hmmm, where have I heard that before?...
The way touch screens and touch pads are developing, I have chosen to wait till March next year, apparently a few new models are to be released that are built for Cad and 3d apps.

RE: WACOM Cintiq 12WX
Any improvement with the lagging? That was the main reason I opted out of the 21" version.

Congratulations on finding a render app that works with your workflow and talent, however degrading one against another in a public forum is kinda tacky.
There are numerous render engines out there and generally it takes a while to find the one that you can work comfortably with, some have higher learning curves with more available tweakable features, some are total photo realistic based, some handle exteriors better as some do interiors better and even some are animation based. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, be it it's realism abilities or price.I have not used v-ray yet, however by the images i've seen it seems awesome, I am a Podium user and have no reason to change that as I get the results I seek. Having said that does not mean I will not change, as the industry changes so must my ability to keep up, putting pressure on the designers of my sotware app, if it falls behind or ignores the users wishes...well thats the end of that app.
Finally, my other point is 'ability', it's easy to diss the software for a less than excepted result, however only once you are totally fluent and still not getting results or no help available for asked questions can one throw ones hands into the air and blame the app.
Happy rendering.

RE: Vray for SketchUp? - A Black Art?

Ya-nee Bigstick's point is valid Podium is free as a trial version with the only restriction being the render size. Every month the trial ends and you renew it free, with any upgrades that are available. Bigstick is putting together a lighting package with from what I understand will be over 100 fixtures that are spec'd according to manufacturer, one needs just place it and select your bulb wattage.
I have used Kerky and it rocks, however being a lazy ex-vaalie, Podium is a one app build and render solution. Considering that it only launched in December, it has come a far way, and word has it that the future looks bright. Now with TBD the designer at the helm and he has always got a script up his sleeve for a tweak here or there, so I can only imagine what's next...internet streaming music using suave technology, while it renders (nothing like muzak for those paint drying moments)..realtime modelling maybe...hey see the new directX 10 products that are coming out, in a year or so over night rendering will be all but a relic of the past (at least thats how it seems)And for the record all free productive software rocks!
