    • Imported .dwg converted from Revit

I imported a model (.dwg) which was exported from Revit. The model came into SU with the orange color faces in the attached image. I opened component and painted faces individually and also painted faces using Fredo6 thrupaint. The entity info box shows the correct front and back faces, but the orange color will not go away.

Any thoughts on how to correct this, so faces are displayed properly.

So, I placed the above message in the SketchUp forum thread (not Sketchucation) this all started. In less than 45 seconds a moderator killed my post. So, just a heads up, it's now clear they will want to control the messaging around the dire straits of SketchUp.

Your comment is hidden but not removed. I was able to click on it and read it. 😎

Can any of the BETA Testers or anyone familiar with kind of work provide any insight into how this feature in the subscription version works, and if there any tutorials in the works for this?

I'd love to know if this is a simple or complex workflow transition for modeling and presenting.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Yes it was via the license manager and yes it start with a U.
How do I get the verification code? Is that the one they will email soon because I couldn't see anywhere to request it.

There is a tab underneath the Serial Number in the license manager. If you click on it, it should email you the new serial number plus the authorization code.

I hope sketchup pro moves to web platform and we can finally get rid of those pesky desktop versions once and for all.

That would be my last day with SU

I'm hoping "function" was joking, but if not YIKES!

If SU were to be Web only, Solo would need to change his name because there would be a heck of a lot of SU users joining him out the door.

sfto1 , have to give you the prize... round knife , two common edgers , awl with haft . The "mushroom" shaped tool was inelegantly referred to as a "seat smasher".

Thanks Tuna. I had an uncle that "played" with these tools, and I remember trying myself. I didn't quit my day job πŸ˜„

Also, excellent models and renderings. What rendering program do you use?

      Hey Folks,
It's just my wife gave me the option of buying it and losing my beer allowance for a year or keeping what I have. Well,,,,,, a boy gotta have brewskis.

      Mike

Maybe a solution would be half brewskis a year over two years. You know the saying "man does not live on liquid bread alone" or something like that πŸ˜„

Meanwhile Whaat is teasing with some GAME CHAGER before the end of 2018. Highly likely there will be x10 more features than in SU19 (sadly)

      Where is Whaat's teaser posted?

Sketch 2018 was released Nov 14

      SU 2016 Nov17

We're fast closing in on a year + 1 month since the last major release:

      • the anticipation is driving me nuts (not walnuts but coconuts, I hate coconuts),
      • the lack of communication is giving me the heeby-jeebies, especially with the OSX only maintenance update released recently (but hey, at least that was done to help OSX based clients, good on you!),
      • makes me want to scream as I've had to pay my maintenance blindly (which, as per historical release cycle, would have been after the new major release).

      SU 2015 released 11/3/14
      SU 2014 released 2/27/14
      SU 2013 released 5/21/13

This is the longest between releases since 2013 was issued.
SU has long since stopped being a hobby for me. It is one of several important tools in my professional work flow, so I'm always eager/interested to know what improvements might come thru this program, and what I need to do in order to incorporate such changes.

Hopefully, the extra time has been due to additional native tools being added or high poly models being handled better - period β˜€

I would certainly upvote SU more if they gave us some ideas of where they want to go with this software. (instead of all the interpolating that happens in the forums) In years past, the wish lists (here anyway) have devolved into why something couldn't be done. πŸ˜•
I have been holding off on investing precious time in learning another way for modeling, but Chip Walters' "Blender" videos are looking more and more attractive. I might have a damn it moment, bite the bullet and start down the path of learning Blender too.

      • 10 - It is easy to use and if the .png is not complicated, such as the font image you have shown, the work flow I described earlier in this thread will be a viable option for you.

Look in plugin store for SKM tools. Image trimmer should be a part of that plugin/extension

    • RE: Extrude PNG letter

A workflow that might work is to use Image Trimmer by TIG and then explode the result. I think image trimmer is in his SKM tools extension. You will then be able to push pull the geometry. Depending on how many segments are created by image trimmer, you may be able to preserve the curves of your "letter"

I tried this on an image of a person and it extruded, but there were quite a few very small segments when the image was trimmed, so when extruded there were a lot of faces.

Another way would be to install the font on your machine (or maybe it is already on your machine) and use 3D text and assign a height to the text.

    • RE: Rings

I needed to tweak materials for some reason. I did not have a good diamond material so I used clear glass. The rings are sitting on a rough rubber matt. The silver material was switched with Chromium. I could not get the silver to work.

This is done in Thea4SU 1.5 AO

Thanks for the Model Majid! and the inspiration 😎
