RE: Tall Ships
Alan,
I cant help but think about the contrast shown between one of the oldest wind technologies and and one of the newest (turbines). Thanks for posting the great pictures. -
RE: The slammer
a drip in the ceiling, a rodent on the floor and a way out (a gap in the bars), that cell is depressing...pretty convincing. The shadows cast by the bars show an interesting pattern.

RE: Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?
Chuck and all,
I understand the frustrations voiced, and the concerns of there being better softwares out there and the possibility that youre/we are not working with the latest/greatest. I read the previous thread with the survey about user desired SU improvements, and fully need some of the higher priority user requests, like dualcore compatibility.
I have been finding the level of detailing I am putting into my models leaves me considering why I need to import into another program to document and detail. In the last 2 years I feel I have been implementing alot of new software, though they haven't been used as prevelantly as SU has been. It stresses me to go through another software implementation to get work out.
One of my architectural software vendors is very user orientated, and the userbase is diverse and vocal. The vender tried hard to accommodate many of the users wishes. However I feel that there was a bulletproof version (3 versions back) that they messed up by making the upgrade oneway and they havent been able to fully fix the new releases. The result:? a software that has great potential, that has lost several key functions, added some interesting new ones, but by trying to be everything to everyone, pretty much became a real PITA to me. In short, my point is I think software vendors are too eager to release new versions to get the upgrade dollars, and dont exercise enough diligence working out the bugs. They expect us to tell them what to fix and cause us lost production and time messing with their errors.
I too am anxious to see version 7: for as I mentioned, the modeling capabilities for architecture are impressive, and I have found effective techniques to implement SU into CAD...what I feel though is the implementation to CAD is a waste of time, since the model already holds the ingredients to display a viable set of plans; there just are limitations in SU getting it to documents or printing.
Layout is nice, and works very good for quick presentations without a lot of detail or importance. When my SU requirements get too specific Layout doesn't cut it. It gets too tempermental.Having said all that I am willing to work with vs6, because it works good, and hope version 7 will enhance to output capacity. I don't want Google to release a half-baked version. I would like documentation to be as simple as modeling in SU, and the SU model to stay in its' native environment till CDs are ready.
Just my .02 cents. -

RE: Select last entity
David,
Last year RickW(http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=370) wrote Selection Memory 2. Fantastic tool. Definite must have. -
RE: Saving components downloaded from warehouse
Make unique will work when more than one instance of the component is in the file open on your screen.
The path to the component library on a pc is:C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Components
right click the component on the component menu, select save as
You can modify the right click save as selection to path straight to the component file
Window (top of the screen), Preferences, Files, Components, There you set the path where you wish to keep them. you will have to save that path to your template and then the all the projects open under that template will 'save as' to that location.

RE: Sketch Styles
Nice! Your collection of line styles will preserve the Bic blue ballpoint's essence of hand-drawing for future generations. And I thought Bics were for poking holes in the top of jar lids! Thanks

Good work! I really appreciate this tool. Thanks and Have a great day. -
RE: Drape Tool for DTM Roads
Gai,
Great Tutorial. Timely too, I was just manipulating a lump of components to affect some layer manipulation. Good trick, thanks for showing it to us.

RE: Request Plugin: ABORT operations in ESC
Third for the abort command key-stroke. The sandbox tools are an excellent example of processes seizing a pc and the only way to regain control of the machine is a crash. A abort command key sequence/stroke is necessary.

Weld tool and explode casues fragments
I am a BIG fan of the Weld tool. Use it all the time on topos.
Sometimes the 2 selections after (close loop, and make faces) initiate even when i select NO after the weld. No Prob, but to erase the closed loop, i have to explode the loop, this breaks the line into many small segments. The situation is that the weld wont work on that batch of selected all connected lines again. I have found a work around by select all connected and copying the line and pasting it back. This is not a consistent fix though.
Has anyone found another way to work through this.

RE: Things that really piss you off
I think the oil companies that have doubled the price of fuel in the last year should be paying for the conflict in Iraq. They should pay incentives to the soldiers wives, spouses, and they should pay the whatever billions it costs per day to maintain the presence over there. Diesel is $4.40/ gallon USD today.

RE: Hopper Help Needed
either a screen with the grid sized for your spheres, or a gate on an adjustable screw that will adjust a centered slot to allow various sized spheres through, one time wide, and the slit length will be only as long as number of sphere that will go though the chute simultaneously(or max area or slit < area of output chute). this will allow your orface to be any size, as output will be controlled by the gate.

RE: Things that really piss you off
This is weird, but, the last time I let myself get pissed: I dont remember the situation that caused my slip, but it was about my wife:I was in my kitchen on a saturday, and my wife was out in her car running errands. Some situation about her made me furious, I slammed a pan on the counter and dented the crap out of it, and I kid you not: less than 2 minutes later, my phone rang, she had just been in a wreck. everyone was OK, but...powerful.
