I am finding it incredibly hard to work in cad after modeling my last house in SU.
All the editing of stuff... and selection of entities and pens, and bounding boxes, colors and layers...is driving me to boredom....I can't concentrate anymore!

Logos and Endorsements
I think name brands sell...when homebuyers see the stickers on the windows of a new house, or the name on the refrigerator etc. they imagine a standard of quality.
I am incorporating company logs on my drawings, My own and if the project is in conjunction with a contractor, developer, etc. their logo is placed in the title block.
I often spec certian manufacturers and am very loyal to some of these providers, but I have not included their logos on any printed documents. Being the perception of quality is sometimes associated with the label, does anyone see any reason or merit to using a manf. logo in your drawing? Their name is already used, so the logo would actually be eyecandy. Do the manufacturers ever pay for this type of representation?

RE: Vista, should I upgrade?
I set up a new pc for a couple reasons, but the main purpose was my then primary was a laptop, and the mileage on it was significant and it needed maintaince. All my old secondary pcs had been given away, and I couldn't avoid or afford down time while the laptop was worked on. This is where a new desktop came into the picture... it is amazing the horsepower you can buy for cheap these days...anyway, all my day to day software wasn't claiming Vista compatibility, so I barely test drove it. It would be interesting to set up a vista OS machine that wasn't in a critical position, to migrate into slowly. I saw Vista taking a long time to boot, and the annoying verify screens kept popping up, and an extensive library of installed desktop choices...I didn't see any operational benefits.
We will all be on Vista eventually, and as you all see in this forum everyday, there are many innovative persons here ...so why not buy a machine and go for it? It can't be that bad. -
RE: Vista, should I upgrade?
what is it with software upgrades? I feel like the upgrades are being released not ready for prime time...except for SU, I didn't have any problems with V 6.
I have projects that last longer than the software versions, and it gets to be a pain when you have to migrate a database/file into the new version before dealing with a situation. Not only are they frequent, they are letting (making) the user base scream about the bugs to get them fixed.
anyway...to respond...I bought new right after Vista came out, all the XP machines were gone, and I stripped Vista out and installed XP. Installed and booted several programs in Vista...didnt test extensively, I didn't feel like guinea piggin' an OS. I'm looking for software that will just let me work, and quit being an IT guy.

with words and an image that read, click here and an arrow pointing to 'create and update' Not sure how you managed to create that image. I think maybe screen capture software, not sure. Is there any freeware to do this, or is there a workaround?
I use one that has great capabilities, and the price is reasonable, considering when you have it you will probably use it everyday. Their logo looks similiar to google earth.

RE: Blogs?
Back to web site 101 for a second please.
Is yahoo secure about protecting users info? I ask because they want 75 cents a month to protect your info, like your name address, phone etc. According to the WHOIS directory, which is open for all, how can they keep it confidential if you pay?

RE: Blogs?
I was happy to be following this subject, and intended to get involved, and work on my own stagnant non-happening thought of a webpage.
Modelhead and Alan, if your can stand some lurking and can continue this thread, it is appreciated.

RE: Office Pranks
this is dumb now, but my fav was to give the intern the spec book from their first big project and tell him "now you have to proof-read your specs". Really good if it was a multi-volume doc.

RE: Media Players......? John Sayer, you'd be a good start!!!!
I have thoughts on this: the Media player used to be good, about version 9, I think, then I had a involuntary upgrade, lost all my radio selections unless I elected to pay...and did I mention that many Media player radio statiions set-off my spyware detector? So I hooked up the itunes, I found plenty of internet radio stations and not nearly as many seemed to be loaded with spyware.
Real Player seems to be loaded with malware stuff too. imho.. know nothing about winamp.. -

RE: What did she say?
This poor girl has it made, after the most publicized bbq'ng in history, she'll graduate...high school...what is she, like 17? and with those looks and the publicity, she will have practically all the doors open for her. This will be interesting to watch. She is probably getting movie offers already.

Layout Tweaks
After figuring out the processes involved in Layout, I have found a few items that need addressing or perhaps I need some some advice.
- The Leader Line Text Tool: Each text that is placed has to have the entities of the leader line adjusted. I have not been able to make this stick in my template.
- All text that is placed whether Standard text or Leader Line text, you have to stretch the text box after placement or you will only get part of your text.
- I cant seem to be able to tell what the links that are outdated are. There is no clear indication of which drawing needs to be relinked, and if you pick the wrong one you can be in for a long reorganization.
- Response time between selection and next command is a snooze session, but that has been mentioned before.
- Move Forward and Move back either in partial or all the way doesnt seem to be working.
- There should be a kill command button, I find ESC / Space executed in that order work best.
- The Scenes in SU have no definition when sections are used. If you turn on sections with a particular style in use, that style needs updating, If you update that style then any other scenes will have section initiated when you return to that Scene. To get out of this you have to have a style for each different scene. Very counter-intuitive IMO.
- LO Update is very difficult to make initiate sometimes. The grayed out menu items are a cool thought if there is no need to update: but when you have to update and you cant un-gray the selection…it is frustrating. Save of and altering of the SU file doesn’t change the Update menu… Oh yeah, did I mention the possibility of better definition on the link definition read so you can be certain which file you are working on?
