RE: Drape Tool for DTM Roads
@unknownuser said:
I then deleted the imported contour lines
I deleted mine too. One thing I havent figured out, the skin version was formed with a very small triangulaed mesh, I deleted that too, and when the skin, its' border and the drape lines were the only items in the file the drape took about 30 min. Did you delete the fine triangulation after the skin was formed? along with the contour lines. I think the biggest problem is: I didn't clean up the topo sufficiently, and there are ghosts messing with SU.
One thing i am realizing, the more entities are native to SU, the better these monster "real quick" studies perform. Lots of imported cad stuff+ Slow SU. You have to delete all the cad structure (layers, line types etc) and reorganize all of it the SU way.

RE: Are you ready for SketchUp 7 news?
It is good to read your newsletter Coen, very well done, and full of good info. I was absorbed all the way to page 60.
I have become engaged to GE. I have been using it on a project where the sight lines from certain community view corridors are critical for project approval. GE is amazing, you drop your model on the terrain and navigate the area to disclose any situations that need addressing. Some views are apx. 13,000 ft away and the elevation diff is 1200 vertical ft.
The biggest point I would like to see Google make is to enhace the output capabilities regarding construction docs. I think I am lazy , but it seems redundant to me to send a model to cad to "enhance" it for CDs.

RE: My renders
Karin, i like the parquet wood floor, nice texture and color, and the cracks look real. I like the silverware also, nice touch, and overall you show the important features, Did you get all this from reading the manual?
Kind regards,

RE: Drape Tool for DTM Roads
Charlie,
I would like to know if you have figured out how to cut the save times down. I am working on a similiar topo, (site, house, driveway huge vertical drop, ), and it is running about 50 megs with a skin, I have cut the topo down to a component that is 1/5 the size by cardboarding the topo and instead of 1-ft contours I am working at the 5' internals. when I finsih I will replace the component with the one ft contour version.I would like to be able to capture the file and send it to another drive to perform a save, so I can keep working, this would also be nice for some SU to Cad exports, I have exports that take a-long-______time, somewhere close to 24 hrs. Has anyone done anything like this?
Saves on this topo run about 2 hours, all i can do is work on another machine while this is going as any other activity (cpu usage) delays the outcome drastically. The 5' contour model takes about 20 min to save. machine specs are similar to yours. needless to say, I think twice before I save, My autosave increments are 99 min.

RE: Building a house from a floorplan on Sketchup.
Kriscidious's tutorials are good; and ultimately you will need some very good model organization: Make your floor plan a component. What you include in that component depends on the flexibility you want/need. You can Copy that floor plan component off to the side and edit it, after your edits are finished, erase it, your plan in the house will be changed as long as you didn't select "make unique". there are other ways too but this technique is consistent for me.

RE: Do we have a Joke Thread goin here?
Ole & Lena
Ole's wife, Lena, had been pregnant for some time, and now the time had come. So, he brought her to the doctor, and the doctor began to deliver the baby. She had a little boy, and the doctor looked over at Ole and said, "Hey, Ole! You just had a son!" Ain't dat grand!"
Ole got excited by this, but just then the doctor spoke up and said, "Hold on! We ain't finished yet!" The doctor then delivered a little girl. He said, "Hey, Ole! You got you a daughter! She's a pretty little ting, too".Ole got kind of puzzled by this, and then the doctor said, "Hold on, we still ain't done yet!" The doctor then delivered another boy and said, "Ole, you just had another boy!"
Ole was flabbergasted by this news!
When Ole and Lena went home with their three children, he sat down with his wife and said, "Lena, you remember dat night we ran out of Vaseline and we had to use dat dere 3-in-1 Oil?"
She said, "Yeah, I do."
Ole said, "Uffda!, it's a good ting we didn't use no WD-40!

RE: Do we have a Joke Thread goin here?
that reminds me:
My Daddy the Dancer
One day a fourth-grade teacher
asked the children what
their fathers did for a living. All the typical
answers came up -- fireman, mechanic, businessman,
salesman, doctor,
lawyer, and so forth. However, little Justin was being
uncharacteristically
quiet, so when the teacher prodded him about his
father, he replied, "My father's an exotic dancer in a
gay
cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of
other men and they put
money in his underwear.
Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he will
go
home with some guy and stay with him all night for
money."The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement,
hurriedly set the
other children to work on some
exercises and then took little Justin aside
to ask
him, "Is that really true about your father?""No," the boy said, "He works for the Democratic
National
Committee and is helping to get Hillary
Clinton to be our next President,
but I was too
embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids." -
RE: Do we have a Joke Thread goin here?
A "heads up" for those of you who may be regular Home Depot customers.
Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping.
Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't
be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 20-21 year-old girls
come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They
both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts
almost falling out of their skimpy shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they
say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home Depot or Lowe's.
You agree and they get in the back seat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all
over you, while the other one steals your wallet.I had my wallet stolen February 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th,
20th & 24th. Also, on March 1st, 3rd, twice on the 17th, three times just
yesterday and very likely again this upcoming weekend. Please be careful.Top that one!

RE: Do we have a Joke Thread goin here?
Jimmy,
I think I speak for the group about this: put it to rest, you are shooting blanks in the dark. The pro forum doesn't care what you draw, as a consensus, you are expected to conduct your behavior as a pro, both here and in the business environment, one who, as a member of this group, isn't embarrassing others with your posts, and conducts yourself in a manner worthy of recognition. I called the mods on your post, I feel your choice of funny haha was both nasty, unethical and distasteful. Just because the Corner Bar is open forum doesn't mean post garbage. Reread the user agreement. Kris and Boo don't need defending, their work clearly stands on it's own. They are a superb example of what this forum is about. I also read your initial response to the edit, based on your response; you don't belong here. -

RE: Rant
BOOOO Dude, you'll scare the kids! cool face.
I have really been enjoying the 3d detailing and have been having to make myself stop drawing the little stuff.
Is revit, as absorbing or as effective as SU, cause , I am thinking revit is principally the same and if you build all the little stuff and detail it in revit, before you know it you will have a completed set of plans...but better controlled, and you wont have to kick it back into cad for line weights, duplicate lines, layer control etc.
Good to see you back Eric.add: I dont need to go into the whole benes of this and that softwaare, I have used up all the free trials of revit I could figure out how to get and still havent had the time to learn it very well. But I will.

RE: Rant
I picked up (looked at) a writing Ruby book at the book store, It didn't look like much fun to me! But I dont understnad all the lisp and sigmacs very much either. That ruby book was about 3 in. think and read like a abstract algebra book.
