thanks so very much, it was one of those things, if not done correctly it could not get done, the key was naming it, hit return, hit the refresh button, then it was saved.... thanks again... that was a frustrating few hours...

I've found it easiest to create multiple styles and control them in the various scenes, even turning them on and off in a window in LayOut looking at my embedded model. Styles can have sections on / off and the planes active or hidden. When you update your scenes it may ask you to 'save a new style'. I do this, then name is something that defines what it is / how it works. Once these are set - you can apply them to ANY window in LayOut - regardless of what scene / setting you originally set the model up in... I have 2 color styles with sections on / off and 2 BW hidden line styles with sections on / off. I can quickly (relative here in LayOut!) change the entire drawing from color to BW line art...

For some reason, it took me a couple of tries to load your model - it locked up SU one time and crashed it without warning the other. I did get it loaded on the third attempt and my first action was to use Thomthom's Cleanup script on it. The script found and erased 63 lonely edges - I have no idea if this was a cause of my problems or yours but as far as I can tell, Outliner is working fine on the cleaned-up model.

Sure Red. I set up my scenes in SU to reflect typical layouts; Site Plan, Floor Plan, Elevations, Sections, etc... SketchUp Setup Each scene has layers that are specific to those scenes for such things as dimensions in plan. My Floor Plan scene is the only scene that has the layer DIMS-FloorPlan active, all others this layer is hidden and so on..... That way each scene has its own designated layers showing..... Layout Setup Another thing; my title sheet is just set up as follows: Title sheet linework - locked Title sheet text - locked and shared across all pages Title sheet Project text - unlocked so i can copy from one page to another and alter to suit Model import - I set up a layer called 'MODEL', it is located at the bottom of the layerset to ensure it is under all other linework [LO recognizes layers visually as they are sorted in the layer dialogue box] Text / Arrows have their own layer as do drawing symbols such as section syms, title syms, etc... I've also made a scrapbook file of the typical symbols I use for each job That's pretty much it.

that is what I thought I did, I even saved the file, but for some reason, unknown to me, the scene gets corrupted, updated, modified, who knows what, it just is not what I know I had saved, and still am very uncertain as what I can do to in fact have a "saved scene". thanks for the insights and experienced perspectives. aloha red

Red, As for the red arrows on text....try rt click....size to fit........to lose the red arrows! RE: Lines Missing. I am assuming you are exporting to .pdf @ Output Quality = HIGH. I have had "losses" of sorts using high quality setting.......and now always export to .pdf Output Quality = MEDIUM......with good & consistent results. Alternately: You may also want to experiment with the raster/vector/hybrid settings to see if these change your results. Best, C EDIT: As for the text in SU...Vs...text in LO......I would say you need to experiment some with the text height vs points in SU. I prefer using the font heightset somwhere between 3" & 6" depending on the drawing scale set in LO........again something to experiment with.

Well, to a degree that worked then I got lost again. I want to have different "scenes", in this case elevations, plan and sections of a small "test model" house. I dropped them into LO and was creating a "test set" of working drawings. I did successfully "update" the drawings. Then, I wanted to get the section cut lines out of one of the scenes, so, in SU I went to menu, view, section cuts/planes, unchecked them to see that view...and I lost my section cuts. I went back a couple of steps and tried the next option... I went into "scenes" and tried to see if there was something to check off within the menu there...I checked off activate section planes and permanently lost "Section A" even rechecked it, did an update... What do I need to do to have a model with sections and views without all the section cuts obscuring the model? And with the ability to go back to that "scene" and see it as it was saved or updated? Do I need to or can I "lock" it? I get these glimmers of hope and then it all crashes down again... thanks aloha red p.s. included the examples of what I am working on. Thanks for the insights. Nice trick, I was hoping that there was a way that was not too obvious but part of the program. And this works too, I will give it a try. Maybe this can be on the wish list, as it is just how the model works when you "see it" in the "fade rest of model" within model info. Thanks for the tip on the circle too, I did figure that out. One quick question, NICE model, do you do architectural drawings within SU? or do you just use it for modeling purposes and then go to a 2d drafting program. I am envisioning a "working drawing" set of prints via SU and LO. I feel it is possible, any perspectives, examples or experiences would be most appreciated. aloha red thanks again.

my biggest gripe with OUtliner is with nested components and being able to hide rest of model, but still reveal the parent of the nested group/component being edited. That seems to me a very easy thing to do, and I mentioned it here a lot, but it doesnt get a lot of play. I guess it's just me. D

You get .php some times because the link goes to a PHP script which redirects you to the download. When that happens you have to link the link instead of Save As.
