okok, after getting frustrated with the left for dead 2 SDK, i just downloaded the CryENGINE 3 SDK. tried the example file "forrest.cry" - I'm completely blown away.. u can switch back and forth between game- and the editor-mode in real time. lightning is displayed in real time. water is moving, there are even rain drops. and sound. and u can modify, move around, change lighning (basically mapping) in real time! wtf!? how is this even possible, i don't even..
game design changed a bit since i last tried it with the quake 3 map editor.. the possibilities for arch viz are also there. it displays a HUGE area (maybe 500x500 meters) of high poly forrest with 30 fps.
haven't tested exporting from SU yet.

ok, since i own lfd2 (halloween sale for 5€ πŸ˜„) i just tried out the sdk. easy enough to get to run, but hammer seems to be REALLY buggy. keeps crashing randomly. i got the example map (myfirst_su_level) to run in l4d by just hitting "run map", but once i try to do stuff in hammer, it just crashes. when i restart it, i always have to reconfigure hammer (set the paths etc, really annoying). any fix to this? is hammer always the same, or is there a different version when u use the source sdk?

    • RE: Any plugin to draw clines of camera field of view?

maybe advanced camera tools does this? dunno, just a guess.

with a little math u can draw that cone yourself though. sketchup uses FOV (field of view) as camera setting, thats basically all you need. i'm pretty sure that value is the horizontal FOV. im not sure though how to calculate the vertical fov, i think u have to find out the vertical resolution of the viewport first. by hitting export 2D, use viewport size maybe?

edit: nevermind that math BS, advanced camera tools does the trick i think. never tested it though

you can achieve this with either a (preferably HDRI-) image of a night sky in your environment slots (background slot) or by rendering at night time with normal sky and then adding the stars in post pro

    • RE: Scale SU drawings in InDesign

I would also like to know that.
A (pretty bad) workaround i use is to quickly scale it with LayOut, export it as pdf and then place it in InDesign... if u want to change scale in InDesign later, u have to do the math yourself.. note that there is an option in indesign that always keeps the initial scaling percentage of an imported object visible, (so when u resize smth. to 50%, it shows 50% in the scaling box all the time). kinda helpful

    • RE: Creating curves on faces

u can also use the "drape" tool for that, it comes with the sandbox tools (only SU pro i think) or this plugin.

    • RE: Constructive Rendering Criticism

why not, you do have vray after all. a very good renderer, albeit the learning curve is a bit steep. but once u got the basics, it's easier and less "messy" than post pro IMO.
