I don't use V-Ray, however once your render starts you should be able to change the affinity of the V-Ray thread in the task manager.

Press CTRL+Shift+ESC to bring up the task manager.
Right click on the task and select "Set Affinity" then de-select some of the CPU cores.

the problem is that vray doesn't use a seperate thread. it seems to run inside the SU thread. so limiting the cores via affinity limits SU cores as well 😞

    • Limit vray usage of cores

      Hello everyone,
I'm using a 4 core CPU. What has been bugging me lateley is the poor responsiveness of SU whilst rendering with vray. maxwell f.ex. has the option to limit the cores it uses.

i didnt find an option like that in vray, but maybe there's a workaround? ❓

edit: vray thread priority is already on lowest, doesn't do enough.

    • RE: Req: post your wood floors!

i use the free textures from http://www.arroway-textures.com/ which even include bump, displacement and reflection maps for rendering. they have a low but decent enough resolution.

edit: i just found this http://www.ronenbekerman.com/28-free-hardwood-flooring-textures-by-europlac/ in another thread, but they're CMYK images, so you'd need to convert them to RGB

you should have bought a quad core cpu imo since you only need cpu power for rendering. the more cores the better.

    • RE: What's your beginners tip?

when composing a scene for rendering, the look around tool is quite handy. you can change your eye height by simply typing in numbers while using the tool.

    • RE: Batch rendering?

      @valerostudio said:

It sounded like the question was asking about rendering different files and not different scenes of the same file. If this is the case, the answer is no. You cannot setup renderings for different files to batch.

BUT if you have multiple files, you could merge them to 1 file (copy paste) and do it the way described here, with scenes

in addition, u can use something like http://sourceforge.net/projects/shutdown/ to shut down your PC after it finished rendering (use the CPU usage option).

btw: this is my first post here, hello! πŸŽ‰
