Hi Fredo,

As promised, I attach to this post some test files in order you can evaluate your plugin with terrain work.

The first file (road test.skp), show you one of my principal process in order to make roads, and the boring step of cleaning the faces outside the original contours after using the sandbox...I weld all the contours of the road, but I think you'll have to create somme edges in order to divide the whole road in parts.

The second file are classic contours for terrain.

Really big thanks for investing so much time to give us so niceeeee plugins !! I'll try to post a file to test it on terrain modelling, which is my main occupation in SU.

Do you mean the next version will still have those f....ng moving toolbars ??!! No, please...Is one day a new release will give us something that we claim for ??

This Autodesk project holded another name before : Cooper, or something like that. I tested it a few month ago when it was still a beta, and It's really similar to Layout. During the beta, the soft was a bit slow and all options were not available, but ats this time, the soft was already nice. I'll try it again.

I only use SU in order to model this work. And I don't know Revit so can't tell you if it's better or not than SU. And I Think that for equivalent skills whatever the software...I think the difference comes when you want to use your model after for other goals than 3D presentation. SU is only for 3D modelling and presentation, I think that Revit can do a lot more.

As promised this is an example of a job I made with SU and Layout. I just delete some informations relative to the client.

I learned Layout doing this work, and don't take me a long time to find how it works.

If you need some help on Layout, just aske here or better, in the forum section for Layout.

I'm becoming crazy...after three days of work under SU, I'm afraid of minimizing any window...whatever the program I'm using, I'm juste thinking in my head "Don't do that you idiot !! You'll have to reorganize all your toolbars !!"...but then I realize that I'm not in SU and I can breathe freely...please Google...do something for me, I'm sick !!

Don't think that you can do that...because you can only export in jpg or pdf from Layout. But you could export in pdf and open it in Corel. But using Layout in far more simply.

If you have to make presentation of your drawings and have SU PRO, you definitly have to use Layout...Take the time to learn it, it's really easy and good !

I'm modeling a race track for a client, and I have a question on the best way to acheive it. I have the profile and the road's axis of the track and the follow me tool give me these results :

I want that my profile stay always horizontaly, and avoid theses distorsions...I know there're some plugins that could help me for that and I'll look for them...but any idea for the right method or plugin ?

Hi all,

Yesterday I discovered another autocadlt-like software doing some researchs for my company. At night, I tested it on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10) and it seems to work pretty well !! From the install to drawing, export, printing...everything seems to work fine and fluently !!

This CAD is ARES Commander by http://www.graebert.com/, and for those who are looking for a CAD working in Linux, try it !! Unfortunatly it's not free but the standard version cost around 500 €.

EDIT : Found another info on their website, It seems that there's a beta version for linux ! You can participate to the beta version right now, just take a look on their website under the article «ARES & ARES Commander Edition for Macintosh OS X / Linux» of the 09/02/2010. You'll find the register form for the beta. I'll try it tonight.
