The worst thing in Google developpement process of SU, is that they maintain a big silence before each of their release for finally releasing just some powder (despite their mutiples polls) , making SU a google earth plugin !! Com'on, is that serious ?!!

You decide - when the plugins that require SU8 comes out.
I'm upgrading to SU8 - even just for the modelling part. Some important fixes and improvement here as well. I don't expect SU to make much a wow factor any more - it's a mature product. There are of course lots of room for improvement - though personally I'd prefer SU being maintained as a platform for where developers can make specialised tools. It's why I like SU - like Firefox, I can install the features I want. I'm not too bothered who makes the actual implementation of the features/plugins as long as the platform for which to build them are good enough for continued development.
The fact is if I want to have the benefits of your plugins, I'll have to upgrade. But sincerely, for a professional product we're all in rights to have more improvements, even if the upgrade fee is only about 90$. Check-out out there what you can have for this price...or for just a little more.
Being a mature product do not means to stop is developpement, and more than that, to not take benefits of actual technology and hardware...
SU as a platform ? Yes, I definitly agreee with you on that point, but in this case make the free version open source !! I'm ready to contribute and pay for an active community, rather than for google, who seems to orient SU for his own purposes (Google Earth) and forget specific needs of their pro customers.
I'll not give up SU, but today this software, as a "pro software", is only surviving and evolving because of ruby scripters, and for a entity like Google, it's a real shame.

There's been some pretty important bug fixes to the API that's going to make a big difference.
So should we consider to spend the upgrade fee for ruby scripters that are able to deliver so much tools in the same time where google give so little... ?

RE: [Plugin] Image Opacity
I found it !! Thomthom releases are a compensation of the SU 8 release...

RE: [Plugin] Architect Tools
Damn ! All your last rubies'll boot my workflow ! Thanks for sharing your tools.
Regards.

RE: [Plugin] Raytracer
Thanks a lot Thomthom, exactly what I requested a month ago for evaluating covisibility on a terrain !!

RE: SketchUP 8
Solid tools...bool tools cost around 20 $...I hope there're others improvements...does google knows what RPO means ? I don't want to throw the stone as I did not test this 8 version for the moment, but I really hope they do not fool us again...

RE: Vidro Global Illumination Render
Thanks a lot for these exporters !! I wanted to try luxrender and Sunflow for a while but never find a way to export my SU models.
Luxrender exporter works fine, but I had an error with the sunflow exporter, I think it's about sunflow installation, I'll give a look further as soon as I can.
Cheers.

RE: Twilight... is this for real?
+1 For Twilight. Very usefull for everyday use and good results. And can do a lot more if needed !!

RE: [REQUEST] Landscape covisibility plugin
Yes, I remember your rubys and I was thinking to them when I said this could be doable.
I don't think that I need a lots of rays, because I'm working on large landscapes, so I do not need a lot of precision. But As I don't know how it works, I don't know if you can control the rays the way you want...And if the plugin can be used for other purposes, maybe It's good to keep enough rays...
Anyway the way you described it could be good for me :
@unknownuser said:added a point on a surface and then 'joined-up-the-dots to make a 'seen_area' group
I'll give a look again to your rubys.
Thanks anyway.

RE: [REQUEST] Landscape covisibility plugin
Co-visbility means a visual reciprocity between two points in a landscape.
@unknownuser said:
Is it perhaps all points on the mesh that are visible from a chosen point at eye-level 1.6m ?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, a kind of ray-casting that could check what parts of a terrain is visible / not visible from a specific point/area, at eye-level.
@unknownuser said:
it'd need to 'spray' out in all directions ???
Yes.
The must could to be able to do that in realtime, but here, I think I'm dreaming...
EDIT : I Think that this could be also usefull for architects in order to evaluate spot lights for interiors.

[REQUEST] Landscape covisibility plugin
Hi All,
I'm currently working on a urban/landscape study, and as I was doing my maps, I was thinking of making a covisibility map in order to evaluate the visual impacts of my project. And I was also thinking that SketchUp with my terrain model, could help me to check if there's any covisibility within two points. As it can be tedious to check all points of my perimeter, it could be great to have a plugin that could be able to evaluate the covisibility of a specified point or area.
Here is how it could work :
- First make a terrain model.
- Specify the point or the area to check
- Specify the terrain and all potential barriers
- The plugin evaluates the covisibility, and apply a dark material on the terrain where there's no covisibility.
I think this is doable, and maybe there's already some plugins or proceedings that can acheive that, but I did not find any efficient solutions right now.
Any idea ??!! Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Thanks Fredo, I'll give you feedback for sure !!

RE: [Plugin][$] Curviloft 2.0a - 31 Mar 24 (Loft & Skinning)
Ok Fredo,
thanks for trying out ! The sandbox is already a goog tool for terrain, but the post cleaning and the triangulation not already good needs enhencements.

RE: Moi V2 : The Zen Nurbs modeler!
Could MOI be a good alternative for sketchup. As a landscape architect I'm mainly interested in terrain modelling capabilities. Is there some tools that replace the usefull sandbox in SU ?
Which external renderer are currently available for MOI 3D ?Thanks for your answer Pilou.

RE: Moi V2 : The Zen Nurbs modeler!
Pilou,
I did not follow the beta phase of MOI V2, what're the new features ?
Thanks.
