RE: Advices for teaching kids
Thanks Trogluddite for those observations ! Nice idea to build something from premodeled parts !
Concerning 3D warehouse...I'll definitly not rely on it, too messy for me and most of time bad models...Concerning practical things, I'm aware of SU requisities and I'll not propose any training sessions if PCs are not good for SU.
Anyway, thanks again for your thoughts, they're very usefull !!

RE: Advices for teaching kids
Hi again, and thanks a lot for your answers !
And as you said, I'll definitly try to make kids play with SU ! When I was young, I was playing Meccano (construction game with metal parts) and I see SU like a virtual Meccano where Kids can build what they want, express their imagination...and hopefully I'll have fun doing it ! -
RE: [Plugin][WIP][OpenSource] Bezier Surface
Looks promising !! Any idea about a beta release ?

Advices for teaching kids
Hi all,
As a sketchup Trainer, I want to organize some free training sessions for kids, in schools of my neighborhood, in order to learn them SketchUp and 3d modeling.
As I have no kids, I was wondering which ages would be better to aim for those sessions. Did one of you already make this kind of things with kids, or for those that have kids at home, which age would be the better one to start learning and playing with SU ?
Thanks for any advice !

I've been trying with QFT, but it eludes me. Sometimes I end up with a mess of overlapping faces...
been dreaming along these lines:=http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44282&p=414933&hilit=+contours#p401481
So do I....

If you find it, I want it ! There's some plugins to recreate a mesh on a terrain, but the ones I know are not really straightforward and do not work with quads...a real retopology tool with quads in SU would be really awesome !!
Edit : And existing plugins are quite slow for processing terrains and create new geometry.
New feature for QuadFace Tools maybe? I'll write it down for investigation.
I'll follow that with hight interest !! Could be definitly a real plus for landscaping, but I think for many other activities !
If I can help you in any way in this, I'm here !!

RE: Artisan 2 Wishlist

Bumping, this is impressive!
Now if only an grid like this could be generated from contours. this might be a fantastic way to work site terrain.
Isn't there a plugin that generates quad-shapes topology from arbitrary terrain mesh?
I can't remember the name right now though...If you find it, I want it ! There's some plugins to recreate a mesh on a terrain, but the ones I know are not really straightforward and do not work with quads...a real retopology tool with quads in SU would be really awesome !!

RE: New sketchucation HERE @LAST
Nice changes...just one issue for me, the profil informations under the photos are really long and should be trimed when the post is just one line long ! in order to have a more condensed and clear lecture of the thread.
For the rest, I like it, a lot.

RE: Artisan 2 Wishlist
Don't know if it was asked before, but the ability to lock the contour edges of a selection could be really great !!

Variation.....
Select 'contours' >> 'COPY' >> 'Sanbox' from contours >> 'Edit' group >> 'Paste in Place' >> Select 'surface' between contours >> 'Cut' >> 'Undo' >> 'Undo' >> 'Undo' >> 'Paste in Place'.... Done
use Undo to remove unwanted.
+1 Using undo and paste in place is often the better solution !
Why not just select the surface between contours, copy, close group and erase, paste in place? why the undo's? Just take what you wanted and throw the rest away.
I like the undo 'cause this way I'm sure there's not unused components in the file...It's not a problem here as the created terrain is a group, but It's an habit I have.

RE: Little headache [resolved] +...
Something a bit like what driven said..
Select contours...Copy it...use sand box tool...edit created terrain...paste in place contours and then delete unwanted faces is really easy as all edges are soften except the contours you pasted in place...(make sure hidden geometry not visible of course !).
Cheers.

The "Ivy" tool is known to do this.
It's annoying that it does it at startup - I think someone has made a modified version that only loads them if you use the tool - it's straightforward to fix, and since the original author seems to have lost interest it's not an issue...
The "light's" look like they come form a rendering tool - what like that do you have loading ?
I have to check it...I'm only using TheaRender but I reinstalled recently and think I did not reinstall the Thea plugin...maybe a file that remains in my plugins folder I saved before the reinstall...

Ah ok I have reload your file
Same result than youBut Something I don't understand!
Why your file is so heavy for just 2 little rectangles + 2 circles !!!!!!!2.48 megas
That must be less 50 KB!!!
I was asking myself the same thing...did a purge...and everything's fine...but I made another test : made a new file, draw four squares in it, and save it : 2,42Mo. In fact, my default template was not purged...shame on me !!
Edit : Find something, Since I installed the Ivy Plugin, every new file as already 6 components and 4 materials in it ! Without doing anything ! Is that normal ? Also found three components called light-point !

RE: Strange Thing in drawing a circle
Thanks for the try Pilou, but the result change with the number of sides, and you square was in meter, my tests are in cm... Try with my file and with 48 sides in SU6 in order to see if it's related to SU version.
