Interesting and lengthy discussion at CG Society

      1. There’s no point It doesn’t tell a story, it’s not advertising anything and it’s certainly not pretty. What exactly is the viewer getting from this? Nothing makes me close the window faster than a piece of art with no clear objective.

      2. You use pre-made content Stock models are great for studios who want to save time and money by purchasing a pre-made model. But it has absolutely no place in your portfolio. Personally I find no pride in showing someone a render that I haven’t created entirely by myself, but that’s just me. If you don’t know how to model it, why not learn?

      3. You’re copying something far more successful I love Wall-E as much as the next guy, but that doesn’t mean I try to mimic what a professional studio has slaved over for years on end. Why? Because unless it’s an uncanny comparison (which it won’t be) viewers will only spot it’s flaws.

Lots to think about and some strong opinions.

      What do you folks think?

Hhhmmm... I'm afraid that my opinion will come out biased... 😐

        Nonetheless... I don't think he's right...
Over and over again, we've seen users adapting render applications and make AWESOME renders of their 3D models...

I couldn't say this better myself, so allow me to take a quote from Pete (aka Solo):

...you must realize having the tools does not make one a carpenter, meaning that there is a level of artistic talent and desire needed in order to set up a scene, composition, lighting, texturing, modeling, and so forth that requires one to have a genuine interest and find much enjoyment in what one is doing in order to succeed...

Users who can't agree with the above, will fail miserably...

        Cheers

I saw this subject in the BlenderArttists.org forum.
I noticed that after a stream of indignant replies about the writer's 'elitist' attitude, the writer posted back that maybe he was a little harsh, and did apologize. I also felt he was a bit harsh.
That having been said, if people are discouraged from presenting at any level, how can they learn? That having been said, some of what the writer discussed was valid, but not how he said it.

I like the fact that people of all skill levels can post here and get honest appraisals of their work. Honest criticism is not all pats on the back, nor is it all knives in the back.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

aah CG Society. never trust anything that place says.. to many loud voices saying they are professionals with egos to match how loud they are...

I just avoid the place and learn and try to improve.. I don't need someone yelling at me or saying 'your render sucks' to tell me I need to improve. 🤓
