RE: Modellers needed for short film project
Thanks Chris, this is really fun.
These are two of the controllers, and there wan't too much else to control the capsule.
The one with the globe actually has a gyroscope that "works" is the SU model -- I faked it with a face me globe. It actually feels like it works.

RE: Scaled array
Thank you for the tips.
I have been experiementing and quite get the perfect results.
It is helpful and faster than doing it by hand but still end up tweaking things.
I will continue to explore what these great rubys can do. Always things to learn.

Scaled array
I was working on a model and found myself drawing (for lack of a better name) a scaled array. Where a component repeats but linearly gets smaller each time it copies.
Attached is a simplified picture, you see this type of construction in cranes, etc.
I ended up doing it manually but I wondered if a ruby existed that could do a copy / scale / array type action?

RE: Modellers needed for short film project
I'm just doing the modeling for now, but I couldn't help trying to make it fly. Thanks for the offer-- I'll leave it up to the Producer to decide what is next. I still need to finish the launch site.
If you hadn't looked he has a ggod start at the launch and re-entry in his test animation on the web site.
Thank you for the flames and smoke, I'll put them in the mix to experiment with. It helps to see them as a flat png, I was having trouble getting volume.

Flames & smoke are really hard to do

RE: Importing scanned blueprints
Glad you got it working. Old buildings are fun to draw although all the odd angles that make them look "old" can be tricky.

RE: Importing scanned blueprints
Welcome!
Have you tried importing the images onto a standard size face?
Make an 8/1/2 x 11 surface, then import your picture and when you import stretch it right to the edge.
Repeat for all pages, then scale all at once.
Others here may have ideas.
good luck on your drawing

RE: Modellers needed for short film project
"Zee rocket is ready for fueling..."
Seriously though, I can say without reservation that this is the largest(size) thing I ever tried to model.
I started on the rocket but found a really nice one on turbo squid for a good price. I still haven't done a final smoothing-- I am waiting to figure out how the rocket separates.
Haven't found any good drawings or elevation so the launch pad was done from photos and google earth. The angles of all those gantries has proven to be a challenge. This image is as much a massing study to figure height and proportions of all the different pieces. Depending on the camera angles I may go back a re-do parts. I need to add some detail to the deck, its kind of barren, but it is starting to take shape.
It has been fun to research, you actually have to figure out how this thing worked.

RE: REQ. Texture help -- hewn beams
WOW!
Those are look exactly like I was looking for, including the one with the mortise, thank you so much.
I'll post updates to the brewery once I get it farther along.
Thanks again

REQ. Texture help -- hewn beams
I am part way through (with a long way to go) modeling a historic brewery and find myself in need of a texture that looks like hand hewn beams.
I looked into the normal haunts for textures but can't find anything tileable for the timberframe.
Any leads would be appreciated, thanks.

What a very cool story.
I sent you a PM.

Name That Artist
This was quick and fun.
SU + IrenderNxt + Painter +3D warehouse for a locomotive and candle sticks.

RE: Orient a model in a photo using photomatch
If I understand you correctly, Keep the models you have done but start a new SU file for the ones in your old photo. The use the photomatch in SU to model this buildings you want to recreate. The merge the two models together. Keep the as independent groups so you can scale them to adjust for any difference in scale. Photomatch is good but only approximate in scale.
Sounds like an interesting project.

RE: Drop everything and draw June 06, 2009
Thank you for the kind words. It feels odd to draw by hand after using SU for so long. I had to resist trying to push and pull things or draw them the way SU would. There is something to imperfections.

I tried, this is a lighthouse from Northern Michigan.
With a perspective problem.

RE: G 20 summit in Pittsburgh PA
I used to live in Reading, PA. I have never been to Pittsburgh but had heard it had recently cleaned up it's rust belt image and it was undergoing a renaissance of sort.
How's things out there? It seems like my whole state of Michigan is tanking.
