Trays - Maybe I don't know how to use the Trays and the lack of usability is my fault. I found the old system much better.

So is there anyone out there that find the Trays useful?

    • RE: A few thoughts about the future of this planet

      **By uninhabitable I mean...

Europe freezing because of the ocean currents.
      Equatorial becoming arid.
3 to 5 metre sea rise.
      Massive climate migration overwhelming others.
Mass extinction OF Flora, Fauna and Humans.**

Each of these has happened in the past. And the earth survived.

Note: I am not a denier, I just think that some of this doomsday crap is overplayed. I really get tired of hearing that climate change is settled science. When not to long ago Italy sent a satellite into orbit to determine if Einstien theory about gravity affecting different masses the same is correct or not. If you can challenge Einstien, we should be able to challenge climate change without being made a punching bag. There is no settled science, none, nada.

To my knowledge, there has never been a good discussion with scientists from both sides on climate change. If your not a believer your and ignorant ass. Kind of reminds me of the Pope and Galileo.

Also, all the carbon in fossil fuel in and on the earth started out on this planet as CO2. The planet survived. Plants grow, large ones at that, animals came and went.

Now, I am ready for the sticks and stones and name calling. Have fun.

    • New Computer

OK, the oil field work as slow down. So I didn't pay the subscription price as I may retire. I bought a new computer, a ASUS 64bit with 16.0 GB or ram. Note this is a 2 and 1 computer, it can be used as a tablet also. I found the old install for Sketchup 15, I had paid for 16, but didn't like how the icon where displayed. I wish to add Sketchup 15 to my new computer.

I added the seriar number but don't have the Authorization code. Question #1, where do I get the Authorization code?

So without the Authorization Code, I have so many days that I can use this version. However, when I am in the program, if I draw a line, the line isn't showing until I mover or rotate the screen.

Seems to me, maybe I bought the wrong computer.

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks in advance

      Ken

Never mind, I downloaded 2017 Make and it works fine. Will go with that until work picks up.

Darn sdmitch your quick on the draw.

One problem with your plugin, I show a 90 angle just to simplify the drawing. However, the angle can be any reasonable angle.

So if you add an input for the angle it should be good to go.

      Thanks

    • RE: Tube coping template wrappers

I believe this is what he requires. However, if he is working with actual tubing, something less than 3" in dia. he should scale up.

I do this procedure all the time to for Gulf of Mexico oil structures. I haven't found a plugin to accomplish this task. I do it the old hard way.

      1. Make vertical pipe, 360 segments, so I have good accuracy on the coped pipe.

      2. The cope pipe has segments to the amount of actual refence line I require. I alway make sure that the number of segments is always a whole number of degrees. As an example, 360 degrees divided by 50 would give you 7.2 degrees for each segment. That means there is one segment that is not whole. I usually use 36 segment, which gives me a segment for each 10 degrees.

      3. I use the plugin "flattery" to flatten out each segment. Note to see each segment, you will have to turn on hidden lines.

There you are, the complete layout. I know it shouldn't be hard to make a plugin to do this, however, I don't have the skills. Wish you luck.

Looks like the spacing between icons is larger in the vertical toolbars

Everything is bigger, I could get the pixal sizes, but I can work with it. Just means, I have to learn another toolbar setup.

My big concern now is all the plugins that are appearing. But, heck I will deal with that also.

Here are a set of images from 2015 and 2016.

Computer Windows 7 professional. Company computer, can't change operating system.

Note also, I use PicPick as image capture and when I moved a toolbar icon to the drawing area in verision 2016, I could capture an image of the toolbar's icon, however, in 2015 I had to move the toolbar off the drawing screen to make a capture, as they disappear in 2015 unless they are off the drawing area. Both captured images where to the left side of the drawing window.

Installded 2016. Now trying to get plugins to work.

One thing I have noticed is the icons for the tool bars are larger. (Yes I have it set not to display "large icons". This sure messes up my screen layout.

Finding some plugins not working, like Matt 666 "Toggle Units". Darn.

OK, I must be missing something. I go to download the new version, 2016, it tells me my license is good to May 2016, however, it wants me to pay $120 to upgrade till 2017. So why pay the for each year, if they are going to charge again months before my year is up?

OK, I know I am missing something.

Oops, my bad. I gave these instruction using Quick Lath Around Selected Axis. So I guess I have confused the issue.

Note, I work with ACAD drawing of pipelines, flanges and other round parts. I use the plugin "Quick Lath around Selected Axis". I just copy over the lines, get the center line and presto, I have a flange, pipe whatever.

I didn't mean to confuse the issue, sorry.

Will, Bob, draw a centerline, everything on the sides of the centerline is going to spin around and create a circular part. So get rid of the both short ends, just need the smaller section.

    • RE: Volume is wrong when reversed faces are present!

      fredo6

Thank you for the offer, however I believe that would be a lot of work that wouldn't be of use to most Sketchup user. To give you an idea of my list:

Barrels of Oil (Note there is only 42 gallons)
      lbs Steel (A36)
      lbs SS304
      lbs Brass
      lbs Aluminum
      lbs zinc
      lbs Lead
      lbs Gravel Wet
      lbs River Mud
      lbs Sand Water
      FW buoyany 62.4 lbs/cuft - Fresh Water
      SW buoyancy 64.1 lb/cuft - Salt Water
      lbs Crude oil

This list has been modified or added to as required. So I don't see how a set list would cover all the variables. Now a user input section would be nice, if it held the variables between sessions. Still a lot of work for a very few.

On another note, if you look at the image, you will see that the bottom part of your form is not being displayed. Maybe the box should be a little taller.

      fredo6

      Thanks that did the trick.

      Ken

Note, volume isn't everything, I require the weight of a filled container. I have taken one of TIG's volume plugin and added the math to determine the weight of the volume; oil, water, buoyancy salt water, buoyancy fresh water, river mud, concrete, wet river gravel, and barrel of oil. Had a great time in the learning process of modifying a plugin.

fredo6, thanks for this plugin. And thank you TIG.

And not to highjack this thread, your movealong plugin is absolutely fantastic.

Attached is a file with two boxes. One was created with sdmitch "Rotated Box" plugin, the other using the rectangle tool in Sketchup. Note there is a difference with your program showing the volume.

I can't see why the volumes would be this far off.

Well, I just knew a Bla!Bla would appear and be right. Dave you are right if I sort by name, jimmmy-billie-bob and you are right, I was sorting by visibility.

Learn something every day. I didn't know you could sort the layer name or visibility.

Thanks both of you. Note, the Bla, Bla, was not meant to offend.

    • Layer Manager Sketchup

Wouldn't it be nice, if the order of the layers in Layer Manager stayed in the same order during operations. Now, all the turned on layers are at the top, however, if you turn a layer off it goes to the bottom.

It just would be nice if they didn't move from top to bottom and would just stay at their present location.

Now, I just know someone is going to say, you can prevent this by bla! bla! And if that is true I am indebted to you for pointing this out.

Also, would be nice to be able to select a part, and right click and turn whatever layer that part is on from ON to OFF.

      OK, enough ranting.
