    • RE: Anyone Upgrading to 2020?

Like a fool, I didn't run the installer as an administrator. So when I opened up the program after the install it said my 30-day trial had expired and wouldn't let me go any further.

So I saw Dave post, I went back and ran the installer again, this time making sure I ran the installer as an administrator and used the selection repair. And now when I open the program, it says, open the program to start your 30-trial. And Sketchup opens. Now I get to see all the improvements.

      Thanks Dave.

      Thanks Dave.

About 4 weeks ago, I had a major problem. I was removing some plugins, and apparently I removed something that required me to re-install Sketchup 2019. I had the file, re-installed, but it didn't keep my plugins. Lost all my plugins, lost all the template for Sketchup and Layout.

      Thanks Again.

      Help

I have had the classic license since it was available. However, I am lost on how to add the 2020 license. I still have some time on my last payment.

Version 2020 starts out with 30-day trial is over. I click on add classic license. And the info they ask for where is that found?

      Help would be nice.

      Thanks in advance

      Ken.

      Dave, help another bowler wearer.

    • Archiving the "Plugin/Folder" by date and time

      Archiving the plugin folder.

While removing some plugins that I didn't want in the plugin folder, I noticed that the two Simlab plugins I had didn't seem to be working with Ver 2019. To get rids these plugin, you have to uninstall the plugins, as the extension manager will not remove these two plugins. So after uninstalling the two plugins, I went to start Sketchup again. And darned, Sketchup was staring as a trial, and my trial period was over. I had my required license and other info to get Sketchup up and working again. So, now I am not in trial, but I am in a clean version of Sketchup. My plugin folder was gone and I have to start over. Now, I had an old version of the plugins, so I wasn't starting over from scratch, however, I wasn't starting over from the latest update.

So I was wondering, can a plugin be made that will archive the plugin in an archiving/folder? Such that when you run the archiving plugin, it gives the date of the last archive in a box asking you if you wish to continue. Saving the archived "plugin/folder" in an archiving folder. With the archived "plugins/folder" in the Archiving folders in the order of newest to the oldest.

      Hope this is understandable.

      Thanks in advance.

Will the smallest I can get the file is 5442 KB.

Attached is an image of the file another converter. This is a downed oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

If you can send me an email address, I can use google mail to send the file.

I have not had this program to import any files, STL or OBJ or STP. Below is the following error message I get trying to import an STP file of a nut that is 24k large.

I did notice in the program, it lists the file as obj file when the file name is, CROSBY 2160 300T NUT.STP.

      Thanks for your help.

    • RE: How can I make a smaller version of a sketchup file ?

Well, I find that my models increase in size for some reason.

My solution, not elegant, but effective sometimes. Show everything you wish to keep, that is all the geometry you wish to keep. Select everything on the screen, copy, then save the file and open a new file. Now copy into this new file everything you copied, save under a new name, me I add a new version number. Now save this new file. After finishing saving, Do a "save as" to open the area you saved this file at, and check the file size. I find it is usually very much smaller.

Not sophisticated, but works for me.

    • RE: Hint for Trimble for adding another column in the layer tray

      Hi Dave

Guess I didn't make myself clear. I wish to click a layer's name shown in the layer tray, and lock every piece of geometry with the layer's name and also, have the layer tray show that layer is locked.

Right now you have no indication that any particular layer is locked unless you select the layer.

      Hope you get it now.

      Thanks for the reply.

    • Hint for Trimble for adding another column in the layer tray

      Dear Developers

On the Layer tray, you have four columns. I would like you to add another column, locked or unlocked.

If you had this columnn, one could look to see if the layer is locked or unlocked. And if I was going to move a part, I could lock all the layers, move the part without accidentally moving something else in the background.

      Just a thought.

And yes, I know there is a plugin to lock and unlock a layer, but it doesn't give any indication in the layer tray if the layer is locked or unlocked.

      Thanks

    • RE: SU 2019.2 released

      2019 question

Is there going to be an error/problem thread for this version?

I have noticed that the selection click is not as fast as it was with the first 2019 version. Sometimes it takes 3 or more clicks to make a selection. This is occurring inconsistently on lines, groups, and components.

Also, some lines on groups/components are exhibiting the same color as the group/component. Its as if the line color is set to "by material". And not all the lines of a group/component, just some.

Remove mention of sandbox, operator error.

    • Jim Foltz Sketchup custom toolbar

last month just before a trip, my work laptop HD crashed. Now that I am back. I have installed Sketchup 2019 again. However, I have lost a copy of my 2019 plugins. Lesson learned, have a spare copy.

One plugin that I had, Jim Foltz Custom menu does not seem to work now. However, it did before the crash with version 2019.

The newest plugin copy is from a Sketchup version 2016 on my desktop computer. Is there any way I can this plugin to work again? Sure would be nice.

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Jim's Custom Toolbar plugin not working in 2019

I will do that TIG. I didn't do it after I made the correction, because the plugin wasn't mine and Jim over the years has made me a couple of life-saving plugins.

I am not a code writer. I am sure others will find this not the optional solution, however, it does work for me. I would like to see this plugin modified so it is correct for 2019 and future versions of Sketchup but don't wish to step on anyone's toes.

See the attached PDF document to see how I modified the directory "Toolbars" to make the plugin work.

The short answer is I moved the plugin "Loader.rb" from the directory "Files" to the directory "Toolbars"

    • Jim's Custom Toolbar plugin not working in 2019

Jim's custom toolbar is not working in 2019. I know that Jim has moved his plugins and may not want to update this plugin.

So is there another way to make custom Sketchup toolbars besides Jim's plugin. Really like making custom toolbars.

      Thanks in advance

    • RE: SketchUp 2019 release

I have 2018, with the maintenance license still in effect. I have downloaded 2019. It requests a license and an authorization code. Before I would copy the license from the previous version. This time 2019 says it is not a valid license.

So do I to buy another 2019 license or am I doing something wrong. I just want the classic, not interested in the $600 program.

      So help if you can.

      Thank you in advance
