Skalp for SketchUp is the most awesome section tool I've seen.

I'm not gonna spoil the surprise of what it does bit anyone who has AutoCad patterns that they want to use in SU and have them converted into seamless textures in SketchUp will be happy.

Textures was not what I was hoping for but lets wait until we see the plugin in action. A bit strange because on the website it states 'Export to DXF includes real CAD hatch patterns'. I was under the impression dxf only support lines and not textures.

    • RE: How to get from Google Earth?

Just did a quick google search and maybe you should try:

      1. In SketchUp, import the Geo Location you are interested in.
      2. Then go to Window---->Components.
      3. Click the pulldown menu to the left of the search bar.
      4. Choose "nearby models".
      5. A list of available buildings near your location will appear.
      6. Click on any to import to your model file in SketchUp.

      Hi Kristoff,

Yes, I tried it some time ago. It didn't work for me because it uses textures and it created several scenes during the process which I would like to avoid.

I'm really looking for a plugin that uses line hatches instead of textures. Much better quality with printing, can be exported to people who still use cad programs etc. Jolran started making such a plugin some time ago but he hasn't released an update for a while now. Maybe it's him at the Basecamp?

    • New section plugin?

just saw a basecamp twitter message about a new plugin called http://www.skalp4sketchup.com
I'm not sure if it's using textures or real hatches but I'm very curious about the upcoming youtube video...crossing fingers.

edit: I see Rich O'Brien already spotted this news on twitter several hours ago. If it turns out to be a real line hatch plugin I will follow him in #takemymoney

    • RE: Who said SketchUp doesn't need to be 64 bit?

That's a coincidence...first time in over 7 years of Sketchup use: same problem.

Just imported a terrain mesh (.obj 114 Mb, SU file 227 Mb). Picked mesh and wanted to move to origin...circle of death appears and enter popup.

Win7 X64, 8Gb of memory, 3Gb still available, picasa and streaming radio running in background.

What source is needed? just pictures? or an panorama of a room?

I guess you need an expensive laser scanner to make a point cloud. Doesn't it take pictures at the same time which is used here for easy exploration of the data?

I uninstalled and reinstalled v0.2 but nothing is visible in the UV editor. SketchUp 2014, Windows 7 and IE9.

I edited my post above. For v0.2:
On my win7 32bits SU2014 and IE11 the contents are visible but I can't select the move tool.
On my win7 64bits SU2014 and IE11 the contents are not visible.

      • Fix for texture not appearing in UV Editor window on Windows.
      • UV Editor window stays on top.
Please let me know if you're still having trouble getting started.

      Texture appears in v0.20 but I cant select the move button. Win7 32bits Su2014 , IE 11

      edit: Still empty window with v0.20 on Win7 64bits Su2014 , IE 11

You are sure you are using v0.2? I had to remove v0.1 first before v0.2 was being used.

This is what I get on Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 11:

      dlg = UI;;WebDialog.new()
      > dlg.show_modal do
      > dlg.execute_script('document.body.innerText=navigator.userAgent;')
      > end
      > true

      And a empty window appears.

      Same here on Win7 IE11

    • RE: [Plugin][$] 3D Tree Maker - New version 1.10.14

      Hello Pascal,

I like your 3d tree maker plugin. Great plugin and I'm having fun with the licensed version.

I'm trying to make a (low poly) maple tree. It would be great if it would be possible to control the length of the branches relative to the position on the trunk (something like the options for 'leaves position' maybe). For instance, the upper branches could be less in length compared to the lower branches. There are all kinds of controls for the decrease of angles and width but maybe a decrease for the length of the branches could be possible?

A decrease in size of the leaves relative to the position on the branch might be a nice idea as well (advanced section).

Finally, it seems like the vertices of the trunk are not welded together somehow. If I do a LightUp rendering I get artifacts on the trunk. If I use the weld plugin on the trunk the artifacts are gone. The branches seem not affected by this.

      Greetings, Max

edit: rephrased some sentences and added last two sections.

Nice first post! Something to enhance the mapping process has been on my wish-list for a long time.
I wanted to try your plugin but I'm not sure what's going wrong here. Front face has texture on it, face is selected, UVeditor launched but no image or points appear in the editor... Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

      On Win 7 X64 - SUpro 2014.

      Hello Friends at Sketchucation,

I am trying to import STL files into Sketchup but Sketchup's plugin that is supposed to provide both exporting and importing STL files only has a export STL option. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. β˜€

      Amos Bender

did you try file-import-(change extension to *.stl) and pick the stl file ? If you use Sketchup's stl plugin this option should be there.

    • RE: Volume Models get destroyed by some volume functions

Try the attached file - used R2014, saved in R2008.

      Steps used:

      • deleted all the guides (not sure if it was necessary),
      • did the boolean,
      • your 'pestering triangle' appears.
      • I didn't like all the lines coming to 1 point on top so deleted some and I added a new line (see image)
      • by doing so, cap was filled automatically but still no solid
      • solid inspector reveals problem with same face - deleted that one and turns out to be another one there -> now Solid

edit: tried again with same solid result in R2014:

      • did the boolean
      • filled the gap, no solid
      • solid inspector reveals problem with 2 triangles
      • deleted those 2 triangles, no gap appears - were double - no solid
      • solid inspector reveals 1 tiny triangle still a problem
      • deleted triangle, reveals another, continue deleting (3 times) until gap appears, undo 1 step
        -> solid

    • Sketchucation error on startup by clicking on file

      As the topic states:
If I start Sketchup by double clicking on the file name, an error appears.
If I start Sketchup by clicking on the Sketchup icon, there's no error.

Maybe it's due to my linked (junction) plugin folder?
