RE: [Plugin] Bitmap To Mesh
Ok im having an issue here, being playing around with it a few hrs now and getting no where, so heres where im at, i click on mesh from Heightmap button and i select the bitmap image, it asks for weight and i select it, then depth but its failing to allow me to select, i have the red guide line but it just wont click like when i select weight, i have lib installed, so i uninstalled it, re-installed it and now a message pops up saying its in the virtual plugins store and to move it into the plugins folder, so i did that and re-start su but getting the same txt again, im completely lost, any ideas??

RE: Video Glasses and Sketchup
Avoid at all costs, i bought something similar about 2 yrs ago, complete waste of time, and money.
- the rez is so low its virtually impossible to model in SU,
- after about 5 mins these things generate so much heat you will need sunblock to protect your nose.
- causes headaches and discomfort, maybe its due to the lens been so close to your eyes, im not sure.
Im sure about 1 thing tho, if i sit to think more about how bad these things are id have a list the length of my arm, don't waste your time or money with this thing, don't even think about it, if you do you will set yourself up for a huge disappointment.
If i where you id wait for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, i have the dev kit but still not suitable for SU use but i can see it getting to the stage in the not so distant future, i wrote about it here http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=72%26amp;t=51973
in my opinion its far better than that device you displayed. -
RE: [REQ] Texture Atlas Generator for Sketchup
@aerilius said:
When I imported a SketchUp model into Vue, it automatically merged all textures into one file. I needed nothing to do on my own. But I didn't find the map useful for transferring back to SketchUp because small face ended up only some pixels wide, and I couldn't use bigger (32kΓ32k) textures in SketchUp.
I have a "TextureCombinator" (soon to be released). It does however not resolve the UV distortion issue (it does not bake distortions into the atlas).
So you decided to further develop the plugin you mentioned you started further up the post?

RE: [REQ] Texture Atlas Generator for Sketchup
I forgot about this post, unfortunately i didn't succeed, but i only tried the once, i create my own texture atlas using gimp and SU, its a long process and very time consuming, im curious to know how its done using Vue and if there is any video tutorials demonstrating this...

Google Buys Company Famous For Scary Military Robots
Yes, Google has splashed out and purchased Boston Dynamics, the same company whos terrifying work on both humanoid and dog-like (or, you know, Metal Gear-like) robots.

http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/14/5209622/google-has-bought-robotics-company-boston-dynamics
Boston Dynamics currently has a contract with the US military's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is what robots like Atlas and Big Dog were built for.
That puts Google in the military contractor business, at least temporarily while the contract is honoured, though the company says it has no business staying in the field once those obligations are done.
So what does Google want Robots for??? -
RE: Sketchphysics to shaderlight
It's been a while since I did this bit from what I remember shaderlight doesn't render a sketchphysics animation, I found you would have to export each frame as a seep rate sketchup file, then render each file, but the draw back was you will need to change each file and start the render manually, this is very time consuming and I gave up then

How did you rigged to make the animations?
I used an online auto rigger, you can find it here http://www.mixamo.com/
Export your modelled character to OBJ format and upload to mixamo, the rest is simply placing 8 markers, 2 for the knees, 2 for the elbow, 2 for the wrists, 1 for the chin and 1 for the groin, then within minutes mixamo rigs the character, this will only work if the character is modelled correctly.
Hope that helps, if you need help let me know, id be happy to help out

RE: Sketchup on 3D screens
The problem is the UI in sketchup, it was designed to be used on a 2d screen, to model in Real 3D using sketchup Trimble will need to redesign the UI for use in 3D, can it be done, yes of course, are they doing it? unfortunately not

RE: Syd Mead's VEX (model progression)
Thats funny, i only watched "Last day on mars" last nite and there was a rover the astronauts used to get around the surface that i was planning on modelling which is very similar to this rover, you can find details about the movie here but i will say its not a great movie but the near future tech is cool http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1709143/
Now you got me started, lol -
